apc powerchute APC PowerChute users......

Hey does anyone else use PowerChute for thier APC UPS and have crazy I/O usage like mine? I don't even have all the energy tracking stuff enabled... however I still wanna use it for the monitoring and to tell me the stats on power events, duration, etc....It's a newer version than I had running before and the prev. version was worse, however this is still a lot!!!

Please note: the powerchute process is the datasrv.exe one in the taskmgr screen shot.

compare it to some of the other more intensive processes I have up like my browser that's definitly had more data ran through it..... same as media jukebox....

I allready re-installed with no luck....

would this kill my HDD?

I really don't wanna go without the software tho....

I would double check that the energy tracking is not enabled. I had this issue before I figured out that the anonymous data that is being sent uses allot of memory, perhaps you can block it via the firewall to ensure it is not sending data? Perhaps contacting apc would help also...

I have contacted them and they said to re-install and I did and the same thing happens.... that's all they can say was that or wait till the next version....

I installed the APC PowerChute Business Edition (free from their website) and don't have this problem. It still does the stuff that the Personal Edition does but doesn't have this problem.

I switched myself because I kept having USB communication problems between the Personal Editions driver/software and my APC UPS. I'd be constantly seeing communication lost errors in my logs. So I switched to the Business Edition and that fixed that problem.

It is constantly writing to the database. this db cannot be read by the end user. Stop and disable the apc data service. You will be much happier. All this service does is create log entries into the mdb file and send those entries to APC. Even if you disable sending info to apc this service still runs and still creates log entries every second causing your high I/O.

I found a way to do it but it disables the status :-( Grrr..... I'm gonna try that business edition later this week when I don't feel so icky sicky

Never noticed that as i generally don't install the monitoring software. I use Windows 7 Power Options stuff to put the system in stanby after 10mins on battery then if batteries goes down to 50% it hibernates to provide power for my router and modem to keep working :)

The server at work uses business edition obviously so guess that's not affected as mentioned.

Oddly enough i'm still getting lost connections though, gonna try serial vs USB and see if that's better

That's odd.. I have the same OS and version of PowerChute and it doesn't do that at all. I'll poke around when I get home and see if anything looks different from your screenshots.

OH hm. Apologies. I don't have the "Energy Management" option there, that's the only difference I see. Must be a different version or extra feature I haven't enabled. I suppose it's logical to then assume that's what's causing your problem, but it may not be the case. Either way, sorry I wasn't much help after all. I don't even have that data service running--you said you had it disabled, but that's clearly what that process is.

what version do you got? post a screenshot of the same screen I did....

thing is it mostly does that spiking thing at around midnight..... that's when my little process explorer meter goes a little tipsy around midnight like it's at the bar... LOL.
