Fezmid Reviews Posted September 27, 2012 Author Reviews Share Posted September 27, 2012 I guess 'video' implies non text based games.. (Played a lot of the old infocom games on TRS-80 back in the day) pong of course for played on television.. misc ti-99 and c64/vic 20 games all the atari/intellivision/colecovision stuff.. everyone's first atari game had to be either pong or combat right? :) now for PC's .. skipping again the infocom/text based since this thread is 'video' games.. played a lot of free/shareware games.. anyone remember sopwith? first commerical PC "Video" game was Dr. J vs Larry Bird one on one I think Infocom games count -- they're displayed on a video screen, regardless of whether there's motion or not. :) Charisma 1 Share
Charisma Veteran Posted September 27, 2012 Veteran Share Posted September 27, 2012 Or the Apple II... Oregon Trail, Lemonade Stand, Number Munchers, Oil Baron... damn, I should have written about those in the original article instead :D The memories that stand out are the ones where I played with my brother, though, so I guess that's why I thought of it first. We were always co-op partners, or would watch each other play through single-player games.

Bryan R.
The furthest back I can remember was inserting floppy disks into my grandparents computer for Minesweeper. There were some other games too but I can't remember them clearly enough. I must have been younger than 10 years old. After that, I got an NES and had tons of games. Contra, Mario, Zelda, so many good memories. :)

LaP
The first game i played is Pong on a dedicated Pong machine. But the first game that blew my mind and made me a "gamer" is the first Mega Man.
jamieakers
Repton on the Acorn Electron Plus 3. I apparently played with a Spectrum and Commodore 64 before that but I don't remember them.

Holy colours and 3D-ness, Batman! :D We had the monochrome green-screen with lines only. I can't find any images like that, this is the closest: Imagine that, but in all green, or amber xD
firey
not 100% sure my first game, but was likely with my first computer (Comodore 64). The two games I remember playing were: And Jumpman I remember we had joysticks for the input (along with the keyboard). I remember taking the knobs off the joysticks. Bryan R.
I would love to bust out my N64 and play it but the joysticks on those controllers all wore out so I have to resort to emulators :(

LingeringSoul
My first gaming experience (as far as I can remember) took place on an Atari 2600 that my dad brought back home from a garage sale when I was roughly five years old. The joysticks and paddles were beat up, you had to blow into the cartridges to make them run (although I suppose the effectiveness of that approach is up for debate), and there were virtually no instruction manuals to speak of (and of course, no Internet access to fall back on). Still though, it was awesome. As for the first game that I bought, it might have been Asteroids, Combat (that tank game), Pitfall, or something along those lines. Phouchg
The very first experience, if it can be called one, was back in 1995 at the school. Some kind of formula racing on a PC (probably). Though I was allowed just to press some buttons, crash and that's it - other, older kids took over, crowded the place and I lost interest pretty soon. Later, 1996, my uncle had a NES hardware clone going by the name of Zhiliton. Most likely the famous Duck Hunt was the very first game, most likely because of the gun. I mean - you can shoot at the telly and things happen - how awesome is that! And, of course, I later beat my uncle's records by standing close to the telly and just shooting the wretched things as soon as they appeared  There were some other, too - some kind of Kung Fu I totally sucked at, Tetris, Lode Runner and a truly lame casino he used to play himself the most for some reason. No Super Mario, Mega Man or any other "classics" till much later when some more involved friends from school lent me some games - new cartridges were really expensive, I don't remember buying any on my own. McCordRm
Add me to the Pong group of the 70s, on a black and white TV. That being said, I didn't become a "Gamer" until the 80's when I played my first Ultima game and suddenly became addicted to upgrading my system to keep up with the series. My Commodore 64 hard drive was... VERY expensive. hehe

ThePistols
Pong on the Atari. Then I got a spectrum in 81 which lasted about 3 years. After that didn't bother gaming until about 93 cos I thought it looked dull/sad, then someone at work brought in Doom.......

Yogurtmaster
Atari Pong in 1975 from Sears in the USA. Played on a color TV and I couldn't believe that you could do something like this as TV was just regular TV before this.
