I like clean design and I always been fond of traffic / metro signs, but I think that the Start Screen and live tile are getting tired. It's even ugly. If you compare it to the Bing or most of the OS, it's fall short. Map / Sign: Bing: Lock screen: So, what's that? Start Screen: I'm not a super big fan of the Windows 8 Start Screen design, but it looks little better: So my keyboard pal opened photoshop and tried something that (s)he think could look better. (S)he's not a designer, but... With border: Without border (my favorite): Like I said, (S)he's not a designer, but it kind of follows better the rest of the OS and design philosophy origin that the current start screen. The Metro design language was suppose to push forward text and content, not flashy colour.
