win8 Windows 8 & Aero Glass?

I can't figure out how to enable the glass look, unless my computer is too old. It has that defaulted standard theme. I searched everything and can't find the option. Thanks for the help.

They removed the Aero Glass effect from Windows 8. The taskbar itself is still transparent. There is a chance Stardock's application WindowBlinds will bring Transparency however, just as it did to XP.

I can't even find Aero, where is it? Also how can I enable Aero Lite in Windows 8 the retail edition? All of these sites seem to mention RTM. I'll be happy with even a provisional and lite version. I just want some degree of transparency/glass back :/ Thanks.

RTM is the retail edition. RTM stands for Release to Manufacturer. It is the version that Is shipped on the discs to stores, and to OEMs for use in preinstall for machines.

You don't even have to look for Aero. It's enabled by default. Aero and Glass are two separate things.

So if you have Windows 8 turned on and you're seeing the new theme and your taskbar is still semi-transparent everything is working as it should.

I meant to say RC, and thanks for the info I dislike the theme is the issue and prefer the Windows 7 look.

I think you're getting Aero confused with DWM. Aero was the overall theme, which is now styled to Metro which means it isn't aero. DWM is enabled by default.

Aero is still there, just the Aero Glass stuff is not as mentioned. There is still a little bit of transparency on the taskbar, but none for window borders or anything like that.

No I'm not. DWM the Desktop Window Manager is the common name for the composition engine used to handle the drawing of the UI.

Aero is the theme that defines how Explorer looks.

Go to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\

Copy the c:\windows\resources\themes\Aero folder from the RP, rename the folder in the install of the RTM edition to Aero.old or something like that, copy across the folder from the RP and then reboot your machine. This is how it looks in the RTM :) (sorry about the VM, haven't installed on real hardware yet)

I just set my Window border colors to match my wallpaper which is a darker shade of 'Atlantic' so it doesn't bother the eyes at all :)

They did include that feature. Set the color to automatic and it will match your wallpapers, not just the default choices, but any pictures you use. The taskbar and all window borders will follow suit.

I really should do a bit more poking around by the looks of it :laugh: I haven't done a full install on my own hardware yet as it seems Intel's chipset drivers are still a bit rough around the edges. Thanks!
