aaronjwilkinson
Hi guys For what must be about 4.5 years, i've had the following setup: Antec P182 case Asus P5Q SE Motherboard Intel e8400 CPU 4GB Corsair RAM Nvidia 8800GT GPU Corsair HX620 PSU This computer has served me well. It's played all the games i've wanted to a reasonable level, however, with the latest COD releases, i've had to drop settings down (and to be honest, it never played the first Black Ops very well anyway) Well, after thinking about it for two or so years, i've finally took the plunge and bought the following stuff: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-001-GI&groupid=43&catid=2384&subcat=2288 and http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-283-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2379 I've decided to keep my current case and PSU for now, however, i need to try and get hold of some additional modular connectors for my PSU...because i think the GPU i've bought needs two connectors to power it correctly. I must admit that i aren't much of a hardware person these days, but may people around me have recommended the bundle from Overclockers. The money i've spent on the GPU is a bit more than i had in mind, however, i was once again recommended it by a number of people. It should all arrive at the back end of this week or the start of next. If i can't get any additional modular connectors, i might need to bite the bullet and get a new PSU, however, if that is the case, it isnt such as back thing...as i plan on putting all my old hardware into a different case for my parents to use (it's still a very quick computer by all accounts) Happy days
TheLegendOfMart
Damn you are gonna have some fun with that, I envy people that have gone so long without an upgrade, I upgrade semi regularly a new cpu here, some more ram there, a new gpu every 6-12 months and I barely see the difference. It's going to be night and day difference for you. Personally I would have recommended the 7850, its the card I have and its a great "bang for buck" card, but if you plan on going another few years on that spec then its probably best to spend a little more on graphics. typu
i have had about the same pc as you and also decided to upgrade it. actually i upgraded the graphics first. after a while tho i figured, why not upgrading the rest of it too. i bought the following components (prices expressed in gbp ?) Asus P8Z77-V LX, Z77, LGA1155, PCI-E 3.0, ATX, 78? Intel Core i7 3770K BOX, 3.5GHz, 228? Corsair Vengeance LP, 4x4GB, DDR3-1600, 55? Samsung SSD 830Series D-Kit, MLC, 256GB, SATA-3, 120? Cooler Master Storm Trooper SGC-5000-KKN1 Big-Tower, 80? Gainward GTX-570 Phantom (bought a year ago, 248?) such a system with a SSD really flies and is pure joy to use and putting it all together was very fun too :-)
aaronjwilkinson
Yeah, an SSD is the next thing i'm looking at for it. I also currently have a dual screen setup, but i think i fancy going for a bigger single screen. I hardly use the dual screen these days.
aaronjwilkinson
Order has been shipped :) New PSU is on it's way from eBuyer also, because i couldn't find any of my modular cables....and i aren't patient enough to wait and see if Corsair will get back in touch to tell me that they can send some spares. Following on from this, could someone please shed some light on what sort of case i need to buy to throw my old hardware into (the hardware listed in the early part of my first post in this thread). I've looked around on eBuyer.com's website, but i aren't 100% sure which type of case i need to be buying. The CPU cooler which will be going in the computer with my old hardware is an Asus Silent Knight (quite big) Many thanks to anyone who can help
