propeller
When there is nothing present prior to running Autopatcher, and something present (Alexa) after running Autopatcher, what put it there? Fortunately, AdAware is very good at removing Alexa. But AutoPatcher DID install it, and I did NOT tell it to. Maybe you mean the "Alexa" registry key that Internet Explorer has by default.. Is not a big deal.. +BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted April 18, 2004 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 18, 2004 Yes IE has Alexa registry values as default ... if you run your adaware, spybot etc on a clean install of windows it will detect it. Microsoft has had it included for years. BTW, every update to IE just sets the registry back for Alexa.

It must be comin' from somewhere else. :/
xplatinum
God I hate people who like to complain about things when they have no clue what they are talking about. Just because YOU think the problem is Autopatcher, doesn't mean you are right. Autopatcher does NOT install spyware or anything of that sort. Now, why don't you just re-download the package and MD5 check it. And if you're not happy with the bonus stuff get the ultra-lite version and quit whining and accusing AP of things it didn't do. Grayeyes
As far as the "bonus stuff"... maybe I will just download the smaller packs in the future, but actually SOME of the bonuses I liike and want, just not all of them. Everything is back to normal now, that's the important thing for me.
RazorSA
I agree with xplatinum, re-download the file and then DO AN MD5 on it !!! Other people could have slipped something into one of the .reg files and now you install it, cause you downloaded it from a Newsgroups or torrent or whatever ... and did NOT check the MD5 ... I would .... before blaming Autopatcher
Grayeyes
I've already spent hours downloading it three times so far. That's enough. I've got better things to do with my life than download the same thing over and over and over again, particularly given the instability of the sites hosting the file. Sorry, the sites hosting aren't unstable. They just have a limited amount of bandwidth, and go down when they run out. That's all. I thank each and every one for supplying the bandwidth free of charge just to help out. But if you want to think the hosts are unstable, and the AutoPatcher installed spyware onto your system, I can't stop you. *shrugs*

Grayeyes
Impatient? I don't think so. When I first downloaded AutoPatcher - the full February release - I had no problems downloading it - so I probably got spoiled by that. When downloading the March Update, however, the servers would keep kicking me off - so leaving it on and going to bed wouldn't have helped. They WEREN'T out of bandwidth, because I could re-connect to the same server and it would download the file (partially) again. It was as if the entire file wasn't on the server I was downloading from (and the other servers were out of bandwidth). Of course, this was the first couple of days after the March update was released, so I imagine the servers were getting hammered. FlishFun: I've concluded that the original "Update" pack I downloaded somehow got corrupted on the server I downloaded it from, since the full release I downloaded didn't have any of the problems (the Alexa registry entry being the only weird thing, and that being in Windows by default). If I had waited until the weekend, I probably wouldn't have had any problems with the download. Hindsight is always 20/20, though.
mrbass
wow...9 hours...couldn't wait..so got it from easynews in 8mins. Anyway I mirrored it on my site only the AutoPatcherXP Full. If you want to complain about something that's free and that people take their time and work on, etc. and the servers you download from are donated, etc. etc. you won't find a shoulder here. Try a download manager or something so it'll reconnect. Also about it kicking you off, that's probably because the bandwidth was probably capped and shot over the limit causing a disconnect. Geez dude, don't use it if you want to complain about everything.
Stonkwell Bogtrotter
Well, this just keeps getting stranger alright.Reinstalled XP. Ran AutoPatcher March Update - had NO Internet access at the time, so nothing could have been downloaded without my knowledge (no NIC drivers installed). When I got done updating with AutoPatcher, I installed AdAware and SpyBot, and both found Alexa installed. Although, my home page wasn't changed because I didn't have one set yet, and the malicious files noted earlier aren't present now. An Alexa cookie is installed as default with WINDOWS XP - simply get rid of it. This is not on the Autopatcher. Proof? Re-install just WinXP then run Adawre and you will still get the Alexa cookie. Blame MS for that one. :ninja:

BigFokker
I have an FTP site with all 4 files for the March release. Hopefully, everyone will get a decent connection speeds. I have the account capped to 3 logins at one time to see how performance goes. Try not to hammer it. mrbass
Only got about 10 downloads yesterday for AutoPatcher ...guess demand has weaned off. Any chance of linking to me on http://www.mrbass.org here http://autopatcher.com/DownloadXP.htm under Full release links? If not no biggie. I added a 2nd mirror which most likely isn't needed, time will tell. Thanks FlishFun.

mrbass
yeah there's a tad more traffic...so far nothing I can't handle (knock on wood). As soon as autopatcher2000 comes out I'll make a nice page for that. mirror 6 on Full Release has been UP past couple of days ..might want to change status of that one. I added UltraLite. Can you link to http://www.mrbass.org instead of directly to it since it won't work since I have hotlinking activated. ...all three links (two Fulls and one UltraLite) are listed there near the bottom of the page. cpugeniusmv
sounds like you got the updater....did you have the previous month's release to apply it to? if not, you'll need to grab the latest full release (not the update.)
