+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 21, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted February 21, 2013 additional camera utility to sense depth Ergonomically pleasing, aesthetically boring. It's how it feels in my hands that counts though. I also have seen people on the front page talking about controller costs due to a touch screen, it is not a screen, simply a pad. A clickable one as well at that. I will try to find a youtube video of the share button being demoed.
compl3x
Yeah, certainly looks boring, but that is the least of my concerns. Where exactly is that share button?

compl3x
Cool. Thanks. So the start/select buttons have been abandoned in favour of the options/share button? Those higher res images actually make it look pretty comfy to hold. Random question:do we know if current PS3 controllers will be compatible with a PS4. I imagine they would be? Brandon H Supervisor Posted February 21, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted February 21, 2013 Find it odd they flipped the lettering on the triggers. odd but makes sense, since if you're gonna look at the triggers you're gonna tilt the controller towards you as you're holding it

The Evil Overlord
Not sure about this one, I'll probably love it, but in my case, the DS3 was fine. I also understand that there are users that have difficulty using it because it is a large controller and isn't assymmetrical, (by this I mean like the xbox controller that many consider superior) also unsure about the placement of the share button, could be panic for nothing... Question, have they done away with 'start' and 'select'?
dead.cell
I don't know about anyone else, but i kinda like the new controller. Agreed. Actually looks sexy and more designed around the hands than the PS3 controller. I've long considered the 360 controller to be superior, but I'll have to see how this holds up hands on with the controller.
Hitman2000
The Current PS3 controller is fine, and as I said on the main page, I hate it when companies feel compelled to make change for the sake of change. And this feels exactly like that, it wont have any practical use but sure as hell will raise the price and maybe make it more awkward to use... I cant see how your mean to use this along with the analog sticks with your thumb constantly hitting them..

I cant see how your mean to use this along with the analog sticks with your thumb constantly hitting them.. This is definitely not the case1. The controller has been made much wider and the sticks are further apart for those with larger hands. 2. The vibration motors have been made larger for more intense rumble feedback. (which was said on stage). 3. The DS4 has a bigger 1000mAh battery for longer use. (Newer DS3's have 500mAh originally 300mAh). 4. The grips have been extended and rubberized for a better fit. 5. The controller has a headphone jack for the bundled headset. (just like the Xbox 360) 6. The L2/R2 triggers have been refined and made concave for a better feel. 7. The dual analog sticks are concave now and have new mechanics. (albeit to reduce dead zones). 8. The D-pad buttons have been made larger. So how in the hell is this change for the sake of change? all of these things are major improvements that benefit the experience for the user. soniqstylz
Re: #5 It's a 3.5mm jack, I believe, which means I bet they won't bundle a headset, but you can use pretty much any headset you want. Also thought of something this morning -- the inclusion of a PSEye and 'Move' control could be a way to keep "SixaxiS" functionality (especially for any BC games) without including the gyroscope. So, updated controller, bundled PSEye, bundled headset, 8GB DDR5...... I wager $449 at minumum.

Astra.Xtreme
Hopefully it won't hurt to hold it anymore It will since you still have to bend your thumb in an unnatural way to get to the thumbstick. Xbox figured that out, so I'm surprised Sony didn't copy the same style.

Sorry but I find it more comfortable this way, as it has always been since the PSX era, also I fin more natural to use the directional buttons to navigate through menus. Astra.Xtreme
Sorry but I find it more comfortable this way, as it has always been since the PSX era, also I fin more natural to use the directional buttons to navigate through menus. Well every controller has directional controls, so the user can navigate however they'd like. But when you hold onto the controller, your thumbs naturally point upwards. And since you almost always use the left thumbstick, it would make sense to put it in the area your thumb locates to naturally. Since Sony fails to cater to this, playing a game for over and hour and having to keep your thumb stretched and pivoted causes quite a bit of discomfort. Xbox doesn't have such issues. Yeah I get that they are simply going by the legacy designs, but it's smarter to design around the natural bends and curves of hand. I'll definitely admit that the PS4 controller alone will be the reason why I don't even consider buying it.

My thumb... as well the thumbs of my friends doesn't point upwards, the natural relaxed position is actually an angled one, if you ask me, microsoft did put the directional buttons where the analog should go by two reasons: 1.- they wanted to differentiate from their competitors (note how nintendo with his classic controller addon for wii has also the same layout as sony, wii u is another matter) 2.- they directional buttons are plainly bad, they put the analog stick upwards so that you would focus on it rather than the legacy directional buttons. BTW, I play games since atari 2600 was released, every single controller that I've hold has the directional buttons where the dualshock 4 has them. And the controller alone is reason for me to go and buy it, I use my DualShock 3 for non FPS games on the PC and it rocks (I find the triggers not perfect but they are alright by me, allowing me to play games like grid or Dirt 3 on full manual) if anything, I think that's the first thing I'll buy when it's released, since I only intent to buy the PS3 after a Tales or Falcom game is released for it (Or less probably, any Guity Gear Series)
