SimCity (2013)

I like the game so far but it feels claustrophobic with the small size of the cities. I don't care about the regions or working with other people. I want to be able to build a huge metropolis. :(

I have a New Windonia region for on my username HawkMan79. So far everyone has just been making their own regions here though :)

I'll add you but I'm still trying to get my existing friends together (hard when half of them haven't bought it yet heh!)

I have three distinct groups of friends playing now so it's a bit awkward, especially when there's only two players per group so far! Still, I'll try to be there when I see you around. :)

Well I was doing some poking around last night and it appears that a mod has been done for this already

The files are packed the same way as the Sims3 so you can use that tool to open the packages and then edit some it.

The first mod I've seen involves fixing a function called "GetFudgedPopulation" (yes that is apparently what it is actually called google it if you don't believe me)

The functions only job is to return an artificially inflated number for your population after your first 500 sims

The mod makes it return the correct value each time, so you can actually see how many sims you have. - This is why some people have been having trouble filling their jobs I believe.

Its an interesting insight if this really is real, and I have no reason to not believe it at the moment as this is not really news as the population has always been artificially increased in the previous games.

Personally I've bought Tropico 4 as its on a massive discount on steam atm - under ?8 with a whole bunch of DLC (I don't mind DLC when its cheap like this, its how it should be imho)

I will see where Sim City is in another week

So... I guess EA/Maxis has been talking out of their butts:

Offline mode/debugging tools ;)

Hopefully this will lead to larger city sizes.

Was just about to post a link up about offline mode :)

It just gets worse lol

So, basically a city can grow past 200k pop without industry and commerce in the entire region.

Lies, all lies, Glassbox my ass!

Broken does not even begin to describe this game.

to be honest EA deserves it. they ****ed up majorly with SimCity. terrible release aside the game just plain wasn't ready to leave the beta stages (and still isn't for that matter. from what i hear the traffic problems are horrible and really shouldn't have gone unnoticed until now)

Is there something positive to say?

"Never underestimate the power of your fans. All of the sales data, charts and graphs can't tell you the entire story. Test your game in the real world as much as possible because your players will challenge your game in ways that you never thought possible."

Maybe a longer beta test would have worked?

as someone that actually plays the game, lots. then again, for every vocal person on the net complaining about it, there's at least a 100 000 actually playing the game. people who play don't waste energy complaining on forums, they're in the game. And the ones complaining on the forums aren't playing the game.... so why are they complaining...

doesn't give anyone free reign to break the rules and continuously troll the forums, does it.

So showing ones utter disgust and airing the games broken design, along with mocking the lies from EA/Maxis is trolling the forums?

Maybe your love for EA/Maxis and that set of blinkers your wearing, confuses your mind into thinking this game is good, fair enough, but then the same can be said of yourself, trolling the forums about how great it is? No?

Well, we all have our opinions, and just because you don't agree with mine, don't label it as trolling. :)

more like a beta that let you play longer than an hour. you can barely get a city off the ground in that time, what bugs did they expect to find with a limited beta like that

Boo freaking hoo. I spent 60 bucks on this game, if I want to complain about it, I paid to have that right. EA BLEW IT! Deal with it. EA deserves the abuse they get.

A short list of the issues with SimCity: forcing consumers to have an always-on internet connection (which they blatantly lied about the reason for); underestimating server loads (how dumb are they?); insisting on the unnecessary and destructive goal of having ?real people? populating the simulation (which these "real people" are so stupid they just walk to the near house or job with no real purpose); capping the size of the cities at a level that obviously alienates long-time fans; and deciding to go ahead with the game launch even with clearly inadequate pathfinding algorithms.

Shall we continue? EA screwed up, are you that much of a fanboy to admit that they deserve the bashing?

doesn't give anyone free reign to break the rules and continuously troll the forums, does it.

Then report it. If a Mod had an issue with what is being said, let them do their job

Did they put a gun to your head and make you buy the game? That's your problem if you're dumb enough to pay $60 for a game which you end up hating.

It's not a perfect game but a lot of stuff is being overblown. With all it's faults it's still a fun game but I wouldn't have paid $60 for it. I don't pay that for any game.

Nothing to do with just 'hating' the game, if that was the case, then it's my fault for spending $60 on said game.

The people who paid good money for the game received a product that does not function how it was advertised to.

The people who paid good money for the game expected to find a few bugs here and there, not a completely broken product.

The people who paid good money for the game had certain advertised features disabled and/or removed.

The people who paid good money for the game were lied to, blatantly, as regards the included functionality of certain features.

The people who paid good money for the game couldn't even play it properly on release, some still cant.

I could go on....

Its a mess, a broken shadow of its former self, and no amount of patching is going to fix it.

So yes, I suppose I could hate the game, but I don't. On the other hand, I do hate EA/Maxis for the utter shambles that they have made of this, along with ripping off good paying customers and making fools of them regardless.

Wife and I were considering getting this game but after reading reviews and comments from other users on the web about being always online, I have a concern. I haven't read through all of the posts on this topic as there are 43 pages. So what happens, let's say in 5+ yrs, EA decides to shut down the servers? Will the game be unworkable?

Yes, but at this stage I think that should be the least of your worries. Don't get it because at the moment it's a fundamentally broken game, not because they will shut the servers down in 5+ years.

It depends. Games tend to have a longer lifetime now with DLC sales so I don't see them going offline within five years, but after that I couldn't really say.

Really? Sheesh I've probably put in over forty hours since launch. There WERE some major bugs (especially with trading) but it's all been cleared up and the servers are performing great now.

You guys keep talking, but nothing you're saying makes any sense.

I don't think they ever planned to use the closed beta to work out any of the deep flaws of the game. The whole experience felt more like a marketing experiment and happened too close to launch to make significant changes anyway. :s Considering how obviously broken things get later in the game, they either didn't have proper Quality Assurance in place or simply applied the 80-20 rule far too often, allowing them to ignore issues brought up by QA. But once again they go for the reversal: "It's not quite our fault. You players are just too good for the game we designed." :sigh:
