Couple crashes, abandons new $220G Lamborghini

SAN DIEGO ? Police searched Tuesday for the owner of a luxury Italian sports car that crashed along a La Jolla roadside and was abandoned by its two occupants, reportedly only hours after it was bought for almost a quarter of a million dollars.

Officers found the banged up 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago on the side of La Jolla Village Drive near La Jolla Scenic Drive North about 11:45 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police.

Witnesses reported seeing the car speeding on Interstate 5 before it flew off the La Jolla Village Drive exit and crashed, police said, adding that witnesses also saw a man and a woman exit the car.

Officers told news photographer Paul Anderegg that they found paperwork in the car showing it was purchased for almost $220,000 just hours before the crash. Police said they were staking out an address listed on the paperwork in hopes of finding the driver.

The driver of the car could face a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge, police said.

Yeah, most likely they where drunk.. If had a just a few beers and dodge a squirrel on the road or something of that nature and ran off the road and just hit a tree or something.. I would do the same thing.. but.. that.. you have messed up.. I wouldn't leave my car in the middle of the damn road.. with that said.. this is why i don't drink and drive =)

Or maybe they jacked it from some guy just hours after he got it out of the showroom. Can be they just took it for a ride with the intention of returning it before someone realised it was missing but panicked when it crashed and took off. I mean how can they confirm that the people who left it on the road were it's real owners?

It must be nice to have that kind of money to waste.

A lot of people do this: They wreck a ride, just buy a new one.

Of course, when I refer to people, Im talking about rich :)

Most of the time a dealer would not allow you to purchase the car without proof of insurance.

Murcielago is one of my dream cars. This hurts my heart a little. Give it to me instead--I'll treat it right!

I LOL'd at the police officer in the picture taking a shot with his phone to probably show to his mates or post on Facebook.

It's $200 K not G like in the way it is written in the title of the source.

Copy/paste is hard.

They are the same, just a different way of saying it, at least here in the U.S..

220k and 220G (the G is short for grand) are both $220,000

Supercars aren't exaclty easy to handle, especially for 99% of the population. You have to know what you're doing, otherwise it's not very forgiving...

I kind of lost my infatuation over cars with doors like that for one. Not sure what safety standards they have on the cars, but I recall seeing this one image via reddit of two people burned alive, trapped inside the vehicle as it had flipped over. I'd dig around for it, but it's not safe for work anyway. Just search "lamborghini nsfw:yes".
