Xbox 1 is NOT always online, says Xbox UK Marketing Director. Can still do TV, games and bluray

Also says it's not backwards compatible at all for games, not Xbox Live purchases either. Entertainment content will transfer.

Xbox One will not function without Kinect connected, continues Microsoft UK

pre-owned: Xbox UK Marketing Director says yes, Xbox One WILL support trading and resale of games. But with "policies".

Gamerscore will port over, also, along with your gamertag and your avatar.

Seriously, why the blazes did they make the console look like two panels put together with a slap of gloss on top? Wouldn't look as bad if it was just a completely all in one matte black box.

If you had bothered to read it's not Kotaku, it's Wired who got the first press preview of the device.... http://www.wired.com...x-one-analysis/

Kotaku merely posted parts of their analysis.

Uh I did read that posted the wired article earlier in the thread. You pay Fee to play game WITHOUT A DISK. Is that hard to understand? apparently yes.

If Microsoft's main focus for the Xbox One was gaming it would be a disastrous decision for Microsoft.

People already have smartphones, tablets, Google TV, Apple TV, DVRs, Smart TVs, they don't need a $400-500 console that does everything they already have.

Just a heads up to everyone when sourcing, never post anything from Kotaku.

It's not from Kotaku its from Wired.

To add more, they have not yet said conclusively if they will block used games

But what if a second person simply wanted to put the disc in and play the game without installing ? and without paying extra? In other words, what happens to our traditional concept of a ?used game?? This is a question for which Microsoft did not yet have an answer, and is surely something that game buyers (as well as renters and lenders) will want to know.

Who do you think early adopters are? Why did the Xbox 360 have such a high game to console attach rate in its early years? MS seem to have forgotten that.

Everything can be done on current consoles? You are trolling beyond belief.

I failed to see anything new or revolutionary. It was all more of the same. That's not trolling. That's the truth.

Yes and how many of those are Kinect titles? You know the thing that no one wants so they are forcing it on us? People wanted reassurances that MS will be focussing on gaming for the new console. What they got confirmed the company is continuing their current path of tying up COD and focussing on the American Entertainment market. Why are you surprised people are disappointed? You cant honestly say with a straight face that what they showed is exciting? Everything could be done on the current console. There was nothing compelling at all! They kept throwing out buzz words like they were talking to imbeciles.

Why do you assume many of the exclusives will be Kinect only titles? Why don't you wait for E3 first? And why not focus on their biggest market, the US? Sure I want more of these services to come out to my neck of the woods but that's just as much the content holders problem than it has to do with MS. I thought the multitasking was very nice, the expectation of having more apps to run now that it's basically a Windows machine is also interesting to look forward to. They gave you numbers about games, they talked about exclusives, just because they didn't show all of them doesn't mean they aren't focusing on gaming as well.

It is literally copied word from word from Wired, and has now been confirmed by MS in the other topic... Sheesh.

Sorry, what is confirmed by MS?

Not bad. when switching between gaming, tv, movies etc is this all content that's available on the XBOX? The guy in the beginning said the XBOX had capabilities of switching between inputs on the TV?

In other words, the XB ONE doubles as a connectivity center - which IS a driver in home theater.

Let's be honest - most HDTVs of today don't have enough inputs to handle all the HD devices; you can have STB (whether it doubles as a DVR or not), DVD/BD player, and PC and (ooops), you're out of inputs. (I'm referring to HDMI inputs - the average for mainstream HDTVs is two or three HDMI inputs; if you want/need four or more, things get rather pricey.)

I don't have a gaming console at all because of two things - the sore-thumb factor (as in sticks out like), and the different media playback standards between XB360 and PS3. The media playback issue is now sorted - hence the "winning console" can, and should, replace my current standalone DVD player. If PS4 doesn't stick out, then the decision comes down to content and price. If the PRICE is identical otherwise, I admit that the PS4 has a slight advantage due to cross-platform content (not cross-platform play). XB ONE includes integrated Wireless-N (matching my router) - this is something PS4 must have to stay even.

Not to mention that it also makes cross-platform the OTHER way (from XB ONE to Windows) far more plausible than it has been. Between Kinect itself and its workalikes (Leap Motion, etc.) the possibilities for cross-platform XBLA/XBLW content are staggering - and that is just for Kinect-motion-supporting gameplay on Windows alone.

I'm not annoyed that there is more Kinect content and voice commands, in many cases - the more the merrier; I do however have a problem with the Kinect 2 always needing to be plugged in to even USE the device. Why?!

Agree. However, as usual, microsoft's sole focus is the US market. No talk of partnering with UK/Euro/Asian TV/satalite/cable companies so i'm extremely pesimistic.

Historically US has been dominated by xbox, asia by playstation and euro very even. This was a great opportunity for microsoft to push a console for the world but they played VERY safe.

The biggest problem the Xbox has is all the TV integration, how well do you think its going to work outside of the US where people don't get ESPN and all content is region locked streaming wise.

Europe is a pretty big market to ignore and the most diverse TV channel, format, subscriptiopn wise.

The new controller doesn't have a internal battery, it looks removable to me, it's just not a big hump like on the 360 which means it's probably some custom design.

It is just HDMI pass through with TV signal. If I have to guess, it's their Media Center work doing the TV guide and other stuff. They already had all that working and it will be tailored to your TV service.

I seriously hope for AA compatibility. :/

Yeah but my point was all the companion stuff seems tailored for US TV, especially sports.

Building a whole box around it is a mistake when Europe is the biggest market.

I don't need a games console to have passthrough HDMI when I already have apps and tv guide IN my TV.

Yea I guess they will have to do similar stuff for other regions otherwise it will just like Xbox 360.

Good luck getting hdmi pass through to turnover a sky+ box.

"Xbox show sky movies 1" I won't hold my breath. Fully integrated for US market and a half assed botch job for everywhere else. Hope i'm proved wrong tho :)
