Possible severe slowdowns of the forum

Recommended Posts

Between now and about a week, you may experience extreme slowdowns of the forums while we prepare our huge (8+GB) database for the IPB 3.4.5 upgrade.

There is no way around this, 3.2 data simply needs converting to 3.4.5 and this process will by itself take a few days, among other changes to our database that will affect the forums.

We're trying to minimize this, but you will experience these slowdowns at certain points during the next week or so.

Thanks for your understanding, for which we hope is a smooth upgrade.

When we have a date for the upgrade I will make an announcement of some of the changes. There are vast differences to the warn system too (member must acknowledge a warning) but we haven't decided on a points/reasosn system yet, so that will be forthcoming. And yes this affects the forums only, main page is alright throughout this process.

Please someone correct me if I am wrong... But, the way I see it, this IPB upgrade will not do anything to alleviate the problems with general slow loading that have been occurring off and on over the past year or so. New options and features, sure, and they will be welcomed. (Y) But an upgrade to the forum software shouldn't drastically affect the slow page loading times, slow posting times, slow reporting times, etc.

At any rate... the information about the upgrade and the possible related downtimes is appreciated.

Neowin has been fine for months now

the recent slowdowns have been due to the Database being converted ready for the upgrade to the new IPB Software

If you notice slowdowns then there is a thread in the Issue board for this

I've been active a lot in the past month and the only slowness i felt was in the past few days and Neobond gave a reason for it.

Actually since the DB upgrade yesterday i feel that the forum is faster.

I have to admit that since this was posted neowin actually seems faster, weird.
