  1. 1. Do you think the Ouya has potential?

Just wanted to see people's opinions on the Ouya gaming console.

Personally I think it will be a lot better for mobile gaming as I have a full controller and I don't have to dodgy touch screen controls. Games like Dead Trigger will be 100 times better.

Also the Emulators :) make me very happy too. I can play all the good old games too, the controller will be a huge benefit to this.

I agree with The_Decryptor. I voted not likely because maybe...maybe if some good emulators become available for it then perhaps people will buy them. I would for good quality emulators, but just for everyday gaming? Forget it.

The controller looks like a bit of a rush job. Has anyone here used it?

A friend has one. The build quality is what you would expect for the price. It feels like extremely cheap plastic. To be honest, I would get more use out of PC games with a 360 controller if I am having a controller sort of day. Or throw a few emulators on your media center and have fun. Even if there were good games for the platform itself, the specs are quite horrible. Could be fun to waste a bit of time, but I would never spend money on it. Speaking about the controller and Ouya box itself, I like the form factor.

On the other hand it could be a pretty cool HTPC, I hear they're in talks with XBMC for official support...

Ever tried running XBMC on a Raspberry Pi? It's unoptimised as hell. The UI code tries to re-render the entire UI (vs. just what's changed) as fast as possible (Compared to just rendering on "v-sync"), the end result is the entire thing lags badly (Which is funny, because that's what they're trying to avoid with an uncapped drawing loop), and makes the RPi so hot it hurts to touch.

I'd rather have a copy of VLC designed to run natively on these types of devices (Like the WinRT version).

If I had to get a mobile class gaming device I'd prefer Project Shield.  Yes, it's more expensive, but it can stream stuff from my PC so much more useful

Ouya seems like an interesting but pointless idea.  Something may come out of it in the future that interests me....so far not happening.

I have one and I've used it twice or maybe three times. The controller is pretty cheap feeling and the panels come off way too easily. The face buttons also have a tendency to get stuck under the panels as well. The UI on the system itself is pretty laggy, at least the last time I used it, and it has issues connecting to my open WIFI even though it sits right next to the router.

Ultimately I'm just waiting for some decent emulators to come out for it and I'll be happy.
