Pulagatha
Combine the Menu Bar and Title bar.Remove the word "Start" on the Start Screen and move the user profile icon to the side/bottom for landscape/portrait mode.Tabs (or buttons with optional icons?) for Explorer.Customizable buttons like VLC's customizable window interface, basic, advanced, and arrangeable buttons for Explorer and/or other applications.Mouse Gestures, proper implementation of "Grab And Drag" for background space. QTTabBar's double-click background space option.More Options/Adjustable taskbar (add, remove, arrange options, weather, headlines, stocks, a tab for auto-hide, the recycle bin optional). Maybe have the (customizable) options of the Charms Bar in the taskbar?Metro apps could be windowed and at least have an option to change to the Desktop color scheme (light greys and light blues). And for the windowed mode, they already have a landscape or portrait setting, just choose one as the default for Desktop and let us have it windowed (along with a Menu bar.)THE START BUTTON SHOULD NOT DISAPPEAR.Metro applications should NOT have second taskbar on the left. They should be located in the original taskbar. The scroll bar for the Metro Start Screen should NOT be at the bottom of the screen. It should be a lot smaller and right underneath the menu options. Maybe a small bar that has a glow that tracks from left to right as you scroll?Full-Screen Metro apps should NOT have cut off pages (like the weather app) and should be appropriated for landscape/portrait.The side bar should NOT cover the taskbar and should have some kind of border. When using the side bar for search, A Desktop browser window should be optional, instead of, opening a full-screen Metro app. (And an option for Google instead of Bing.)IE could give top headlines for a live tile (widget.)There needs to be a Desktop version of Messaging, Photos, and Contacts.DeviantArt themes on the Windows Store. DConnell Member Posted October 7, 2013 Member Share Posted October 7, 2013 Make the Start button optional, so both those who want it and those who don't will be happy. Add a "limited desktop" mode for non-Metro apps, so Metro versions can be simulated if desired, to create a more uniform experience. Basically, each program would think it was on the desktop, but to the user it would be in a Metro "window". Each of these simulated Metro apps would show up in its own instance in the Metro task list rather than all in "Desktop". Kind of like being able to run multiple DOS programs in their own DOS prompt window in WinXP. ATLien_0
For 8.2 I'd love to see them bring some UI consistency in. How about a fresh Icon set for the old Windows 7 icons to match the metro theme, update the old Windows 95 era icons. Also what about the old properties tabs, modernize those. Basically for once I would love to see them tie everything together rather than bring something new in. Stoffel
Most of the things on the OP's list are going to stay just on a wish list They are all there to make it more of a desktop OS for KB/Mouse The charm bar and the app switcher are on the side for a reason, so you can easily access then with your thumbs. I would like to see more consistency in the UI, get rid of all the old dialog boxes, and old looking icons,... More options of placing your tiles on the start screen, I don't like that I can't leave gaps. Atomic Wanderer Chicken
Here is the big problem with Windows 8. I love using it on a tablet, but I don't like using it as much on a laptop/desktop. It is trying to do two different things but is very confused in executing the idea. Windows 8 want to be a tablet OS, but tries to be a desktop os also, creating a schizophrenic graphical interface. Atomic Wanderer Chicken
The start screen truly can be used just as a launcher (giant start menu) in Windows 8 on desktops/laptops. I wish Microsoft could bring back the classic, and Aero glass themes! Undead Steve
Add option to remove Metro 100% and have a Windows 7 style desktop, start menu, etc. They have that option - all you have to do to unlock it is stick a Windows 7 installation DVD into your CD/DVD Drive and follow the setup instructions. Dot Matrix
There needs to be a Desktop version of Messaging, Photos, and Contacts. DeviantArt themes on the Windows Store. 1) You mean like the Windows Live Suite? ;) 2) NO! For every nice dA theme, there's 50 others that have no place on ANYONE'S computer whatsoever. They want people to go up to 8.. not stick with 7.. they are gunna run into the same issue they have with XP. You're going to be disappointed, as that will never be an option. In fact, I'll bet you'll see more of the old desktop disappear over the next few years, as Metro matures, and older features deprecate. I'm not alone in that thinking. Atomic Wanderer Chicken
What exactly is Microsoft's long term goal with Windows 8? Ian S.
Another thing is moving the recycle bin below the taskbar, so you drag files down there and a trash icon pops up, To empty the trash, move you mouse down to the bottom of the screen it pops up right click and clear trash. For those with hidden taskbars, there could be an icon on the taskbar for trash. Add a link for it in File Explorer. This eliminates the need for icons on the desktop. It can also work to show the user how to close a modern UI App, drag the open instance down to the trash to close it. For file explorer make have an option that makes the navigation sidebar a tab labeled "Navigation" so you just drag the files up into the tab and drop it in the location like you would on the sidebar. Redo Charms, Combine devices under "Share" because you share a screenshot, mirror a screen, or a print a document to share right? In place of that, create a task manager button the opens up the modern UI Sidebar task manager. Rename Charms Bar to Action Bar. Move shutdown, restart, etc under user tile. Add voice assistant. Add back app searching in search charm. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1162282-ideas-for-windows-82/#findComment-596005053 Share on other sites
