How the Venus Project is redesigning the future

Is it possible to create a radically different society? One where material possessions are unnecessary, where buildings are created in factories, where mundane jobs are automated?

Would you want to live in a city where the main aim of daily life is to improve personal knowledge, enjoy hobbies, or solve problems that could be common to all people in order to improve the standard of living for everyone?

Some may think it is idealistic, but 97-year old architect Jacque Fresco is convinced his vision of the future is far better than how we live today.

 

The Venus Project is an organization started by self-educated structural engineer, industrial designer, and futurist Jacque Fresco. Fresco's project aims to restructure society through worldwide utilization of a theoretical design that he calls a resource-based economy. Those ideas use a version of sustainable cities, energy efficiency, natural resource management and advanced automation with a global socio-economic system based on social cooperation and scientific methodology.

Don't get me wrong... just because something sounds crazy, that doesn't

mean it's wrong. But, that website doesn't seem like it weeds anything out.

I've always wondered if we would eventually have to live like this.  Considering how prices have jumped just in the last 10 years.

 

It would basically be working for food and board, but then I wonder about "extras", like vacations, movies, books, internet, etc..

 

If you want to lead a simple life, then it would be perfect, though.

Automation would eliminate most menial work, allowing humans to pursue, art, hobbies, greater learning.

Any social structure will have a-holes who seek power over others to feed their egos. Unless the opportunity to exercise power is limited and social mobility guaranteed, it will eventually fail.

Here is the biggest problem with that vision. Not everyone can be in it at once. It would take time building it all up, which means you have the high class living it, and the low class and middle class stuck in what we have now. It is Elysium in the making.
