Ebay seller asking for more money after sale...should I pay?

Recommended Posts

And dont forget to rate the transaction badly.

ugh back in the day every time I rated a seller bad, they'd in term rate me badly as a response to my complaint... they change that didn't they? if you post a negative they can't retaliate against you now? I haven't used it in a while since they raised their fees last time...

If you look at his feedback I already listed some, you will see they try this on all the time.Make them honour the contractual agreement .........take no prisoners

Hmm, you're right. Quite a few people have complained that he changes the price after the sale. Lesson learnt, will avoid this seller at all costs and also check negative feedback before purchasing from others. I normally just buy if it is listed by a Power Seller.

I bought an item on Ebay earlier today by paying the full amount (no bidding). I got the confirmation email also for it. However, the seller just sent me an email a few minutes back asking for more money because apparently the Dollar exchange rate has suddenly gone up. He has given his bank account details and is asking me to either transfer the extra amount, or tell him to cancel and he will then refund the amount.

Shouldn't the seller honour the price listed originally? Even if the exchange rate has increased, in my opinion he shouldn't be asking me to pay the difference. Is this particular scenario covered in the Buyer/Seller rules so that I can show the seller this? I couldn't find anything.

I'm a sellar on eBay, that's bull**** , the sale price is the sale price, if it went up then he should have put the price up before it was sold. I'd report him as well...

I have told him to cancel the order and refund the amount. Will definitely be reporting this seller.

Edit: He has refunded it.

You did the right thing. He should have honored the terms of the sale. You don't ask for more after the sale, regardless.

Found this HDD on another site I shop on for practically the same amount; ordering from there. The only reason I chose Ebay was because I could pay for the item using EMI. Oh well, no big deal. :)

Sounds like the seller doesnt have the item in stock himself and orders it from his supplier when needed.  Still, it is the sellers fault and they should honor the price.

Give the guy a break!! The US$ has gone up by by quite a lot in the past few weeks here in India... Its breaking headlines..

Give him his money back or pay up.. He's given you an option. Considering that he maybe a guy buying hardware after you've paid him to send it to you and that he has no control over shipping rates that change, its unfair to treat him that way...

If the price went down, would he offer the buyer a refund for the difference?

An item is only worth it's most recent sale price (usually very little if that price is on e-bay) the seller cannot change the price after the item has sold as he has entered into a contract with the buyer. Enough reports and this seller won't be selling anymore.

If I report the seller and leave negative feedback, can he leave negative feedback for me or has Ebay stopped that?

Wow, that was quick! Thanks for all the replies guys! :)

He is a well known seller with a strong rating. I have also bought from him in the past with no issues. Here is the listing: http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271186796957#ht_2049wt_906

Ok, let me try sending him an email saying he should honour the original price. If he still stands by his original request, I will report the matter to Ebay.

6,600 Rs for that? How many more Rs does he want? Just send him a bunch of Rs by email if he doesn't honor the transaction.

He wanted Rs 450 more. But it's not about the amount, it's about sticking to the rules; he is not supposed to ask for extra after it has been bought.

Just got a reply from the seller, this is what he says...

The seller should not be selling items they don't already have, report this person to eBay.

Doesn't matter the feeeldback you are leaving is as a buyer, not a seller. If he does give you negative feedback. All ebay users can find feedback info on respecive sellers and buyers, you just might have to spend a few minutes looking for it.

User x got a negative point on such-and -such date from user y, user y's feedback states he has been misleading in his item sale description. So other users will more likely trust user x as it's his first ever negative point etc...

No need to worry. And if his feedback is unfair or rude you can appeal to have it removed. But only for that reason, I think.

Then the seller should have antisipated this and revised his price accordingly. If he is indeed buying the item after the fact he has sold it on his ebay page, that makes him the bigger bewaqoof (fool).

People go to ebay and other seller sites for products the have for sale or want to buy. This trend of selling an item you don't have is or should be banned. I believe they did try to ban it in america and england (though I am unaware if successful)

The Indian rupee fell by ~3% overnight so that might be the cause. Was the difference he/she is asking around 3%?

The original price was Rs 6175. 3% of that is Rs 185. He was asking for Rs 450!

Go ahead and report him. Sellers cannot leave negative feedback.

Cool, will leave a stinking comment! :)

That's true, but this seller lists items and only buys from his suppliers when he receives an order. So he is directly affected by the exchange rate. But of course, that is still not my problem. That is business.

That's strange. Here in canada the price of items don't go up or down every time the dollar goes up or down. Unless he is buying from USA directly in US$ then the exchange rate should not be a problem for him. If he's selling item he doesn't have and order from USA in US$ after the auction closed then he is doing it wrong ...

or is it the seller is buying the idea from another overseas seller and due to the exchange rate they are losing out.
