I find the BF4 vs CoD numbers very interesting. I only pre-ordered A PS4 and BF4 so far.

I wonder if BF3 being free to PSN + members helped a bit for BF4 pre-orderes on the PS4.

One thing it doesn't take into account are people like me who are waiting to download all their games for the extra features that come with them.

I am waiting for downloads too.. only because I don't have the money right now to pre-order anything else.  Not for extra features.. I much prefer physical disks.

There will be people who want to do digital downloads in both sections.

The PS4 has over 600,000 pre-orders in the US, which is almost double that of the Xbox One (350,000) so the game sales do reflect this. The PS4 is more popular in pre-orders and is very likely to be so when released also.

And I hope that's not surprising to anyone.  Even without the whole PR debacle it more than likely would've been true, though possibly not as pronounced.  And if you go by the way the internet makes things seem, the X1 isn't doing so badly right now.

I personally am probably going to be waiting about six months.  I don't really expect it to be easy to come across a console in that timeframe anways

Why would it?  That's not a thing they could possibly take into account without just guessing (granted that's largely what they're doing anyways when you come down to it).

Interestingly enough (and I think this was generally true in the past but I could be wrong) it looks like Xbox players continue to buy more games than PS players.  Rough estimates based on the numbers given are 2/console for PS4 and 2.3/console for X1.

Not drawing any conclusions out of it (yet), but just an interesting tidbit.

That's what I'm saying, so it's not exactly accurate, considering a lot of people are doing the same.

Not that I don't trust vg harts and their fudged guesstimates, but I hope you have those numbers from somewhere more reliable.

I any case if that's true, then it seems XBOX is continuing the trend from before of having much higher attach rate.

And there's definitely more interest from consumers in digital downloads on the Xbox one, since its pretty much been confirmed digital downloads will eventually get the sharing functions that where dropped when going back to disk.

I know I haven't ordered a single game, but there're tons I plan to download.

I look at the Xbox 360s digital library and its just weird how many omissions there are of older games...I don't know the PS3s game library well enough to comment on it but I'd be surprised if it was any different in that respect.

Honest question here, is there any point in pre-ordering games? I figure games will outsupply the number of consoles at launch, no?  I've pre-ordered the consoles but figure I'll just pick up games that day (can always go digital so not overly concerned if I can't get physical copies I suppose).

The only thing that may get pre-ordered are limited editions. I guess the other thing is if you are pre-ordering the console there is nothing to stop you doing the games at the same time.

Well in the case of the X1, some of the launch titles have 'Day One' additions which come with extra content for free.  I think Dead Rising 3, Ryse, and Forza all have such bonuses.  I would assume that means you would need to preorder the game, the Day One editions will probably not be offered after launch day.  Maybe you could buy them the day of launch though.

Regarding this whole pre-order comparison, I would hold off on making any conclusions until much closer to launch.

I have a feeling that the pre-order numbers will begin to level off between the two, possibly in a virtual tie around launch.  The reasons I think that is:

1. MS has yet to announce a launch date, some may be holding off for that date.

2.  A lot of people are on the fence and will remain that way for a while.  This could go in either console's favor, but I think MS has done a good job of putting their issues behind them and have yet to even start their marketing campaign on a large scale.  We can argue on the internet about the past issues all we want, but the larger general public will be largely learning about an X1 that does not have the issues that plagued it months ago.  Both consoles will be on even footing as the marketing begins (by even footing, I'm not talking price, just that it will be a fairly clean slate for both as they start to seriously market to consumers)

Basically, I think the numbers will start to even up thanks to the fact that the X1 is actually a good gaming console and have a launch lineup that holds its own.  For the early adopters who aren't necessarily huge gamers but are tech enthusiasts, there is a lot to attract them to an X1.  Now none of this takes away from the PS4, which has its price difference to leverage and is also a good gaming console with a fair launch lineup, its just pointing out that both will have much to attract users.

Well MS has promised all Xbox one games will be available digitally on the same day they're available on disk. Sony hasn't, and considering how they advertise everything, chances are they simply don't have the deals for this yet, but are probably working hard to get the deals ready.

considering how much misleading crap people keep throwing around (remember when PS4 had 7GB for games?  wait, it never did?  doh ;) )

I think they did say digital would be same day for the PS4 though.  I'd have to look.

Non-exclusive games listing:

Battlefield 4 - (PS4: 246,965; XB1: 125,368)
Call of Duty: Ghosts - (PS4: 240,090; XB1: 229,628)
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - (PS4: 160,637; XB1: 104,980)
Watch Dogs - (PS4: 118,315; XB1: 69,152)
Madden NFL 25 - (PS4: 65,123; XB1: 43,167)

for non-exclusive games. PS4 seem to be winning for now, why is that?

no wonder MS want Game Devs to sign timed exclusive contract ...

Yeah but you have to look at the listing in context of how many consoles there are for each game.  I posted earlier that Xbox One gamers appear to be buying more games than PS4 gamers.  Developers are making more money off individual gamers on Xbox One.  They would be wise to push that console if it turns out to be an actual trend (and as I said, I think it was last generation, but correct me if I'm wrong there).

Well, since both Sony and MS have such timed exclusive content, I guess Sony is also concerned.

Or MAYBE neither actually cares about an incomplete preorder chart.  Come on guys, this is old hat from the current console generation.  Get something else to argue about.

The available RAM for gaming has not been confirmed, so cant really state if it does or doesn't at this stage.

I think people who dont really like either of the console exclusives would just go for the more powerful system.

The list shows the top10 games only, not all games available to each console. But regardless sale numbers is what makes publishers money, so if they pushed games for the Xbox One when it has sold about half of what the PS4 has sold, they will be making a lot less money on the xbox one even if game-buys per customer is slightly higher.
