Neowin's new staffing structure

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

As rumors are flying, we have decided to change the way that staff moderates our forums. We have assigned Global Moderators in a supervisory role to specific sections of our forum. Global Moderators can still moderate anywhere.

Marshall- Services and OS Support / Back Stage Pass

Jeston- Technical Help and Support

Shotta35- Technical Help & Support

Damien- Media & Sports / Back Stage Pass

Brian- Recreational Activities / Gamers Hang Out

Steve B.- Recreational Activities / Digital Camera, Sporting

Brandon- Submitted News, Guides, and Reviews

Walid- Technical Help & Support

Charisma- General & Off Topic

Nick H.- General & Off Topic

Richard C.- General & Off Topic

xendrome- Forum Operations

From now on we will add forum moderators that are dedicated to certain forums, this means they cannot moderate outside of those areas and are the moderators to go to for issues with that section. Global Moderators will also lead up categories and can be considered the "go to mods" for issues within that category as well. Supervisors and Admins continue to oversee the operations globally on the site for staff and members. This move comes as a global 'shuffle' on staff to ensure that all of our staff moderators are active with the addition of dedicated mods for certain forums.

Forum moderators have not been selected at this point and this is not a nominations thread.

Hopefully this will help us get to issues sooner, and allow members to see that there is a number of moderating staff for every section. For a brief summary of staff groups, click here.

Thanks for everyone's support as we make Neowin a more responsive and awesome place to be.

Barney

Glad to hear.  Will be nice to have less of a "Global" set of mods, and more direct mods.  Many sections seemed to be either over moderated or under moderated. Will be nice to have a (hopefully) even balance.

nice update indeed. sometimes you think you need an org chart to see what is going on with this sort of thing.

Over the next couple of days, you'll start to see a few more light green names popping up. Once we have finalised this list we will likely post it, but for now I'm sure you'll notice who's changed. :)

How does one become a moderator anyways? If one does become a moderator, how difficult of a task is it?

At this stage, we are discussing between ourselves suitable candidates, then approaching them, rather than an application system. The task itself is not difficult, especially as a forum mod, you're simply focusing on specific areas of the whole community. Whereas before the Gmod team would cover the entire forum, which made the task itself a little more difficult.

This is basically refining the staff process here on the site. :)

Not hard to moderate.  Ive done so on other sites.  Just takes a little time/commitment and desire to want to moderate and deal with user BS.

Yes, it is difficult as there are many trials one must face before becoming a mod. :p Only joking it depends on the forum.

You get picked [by a Gmod] for your dedication, helpfulness, positive manner and level head in the forums.

It can be a hard thankless job, but its also very rewarding and good fun and the perks ain't bad either ;)

Am I dedicated, yes to annoying people, am I helpful, no I cause more problems, positive manner, I try to be, and level head I try my best to be also. Looks like I'll be stuck being the village chicken for the next 100 years

I remember when I was first offered a moderating job of a large community. I was like  :woot: A few years later I ended up being an Administrator and I was more like   What a mess!! I don't even think that community exists anymore.

Short version: I will probably lead a community to certain death if I ever end up with control again. xD

Indeed. It also can depend on the type of forum software being used too and how big the community is as well.

Yeah, some forum software's gave moderators better access privileges than others.
