Image retention on LCD?

Recommended Posts

The red is just a crosshair in the program. You can see streaks in the display and if you can zoom in closer, you can see words and stuff from other programs. I thought LCD's didn't have burn in. Is this one on its last legs?

What kind of screen is it? I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204T and have similar issues, however, they haven't gotten any worse over the course of a year and a half.

Nevermind, see that it's a Dell at the bottom, but they source panels from at least a few different manufacturers - including Samsung.

LCD's can suffer from burn-in in extreme cases. My old Galaxy Nexus had the problem.

I actually made a thread about it on here, a few people said it was the OLED cells in the panel dying which caused it.

Either way, you can't really repair the problem  - just change the panel for a new one,

Yeah, LCDs can absolutely get burn in, especially if the monitor is that old. My old TV (well, my bedroom TV now) used to get REALLY bad ghosting issues. Does it go away over time, or is the same image burnt in permanently? The best solution would be to set your screensaver to activate quickly, or even just turn off the display after a very short timeout. Even a minute or two on the same screen would cause my TV to have a ghost for a little while, but they always went away after some period of time. Unfortunately when you use it as a monitor, there are lots of parts of the screen that don't get refreshed frequently when you're working on one thing. Title bars and such may rarely move while the content does. I think LCDs are less affected by permanent burn in though, not to say it can't happen.

they absolutely have an issue with image retention.  My ipad 2 has it with the browser address bar in all corners of the screen regardless which way you turn it.  It does go away after you leave it off for a while but it comes back very quickly.  Tech isn't made to last unfortunately.
