Xbox One Damaged right out of the Box, Many pictures.

So today I had to work from 2pm-midnight, sadly I was not able to make the line as I had not per-ordered so I convinced my husband to do the deed for me and stand in line for 10 hours. I left work at 1130pm to meet him there and grab the console and go home.

We decided to go with a bundle from Best buy for 880$ we got two choose any two games, we got an extra controller, 2 years of xbox live gold, 2 year replacement plan, some bs games membership for 20% of all new games for 2 years and 10% off used games for 2 years. I believe that was everything... Anyways it was a good deal.

We both drive home and decide to grab a beer and start unboxing everything. we take everything out very carefully and when we get to the console he hands it over to me to do the final unwrapping of the plastic and when I remove the plastic and examine the mighty fine looking load of bricks, I notice it has a scratch on it fresh out of the factory. Upon closer inspection with the lights all turned on I noticed damage going two directions and on the edges, it looks to me like it was dropped in the factory or something, Do they not have any quality control?

Do they not think I am going to examine my new console that I just spent 940$ with taxes on... I don't understand this.

Is there anything I can do about this, other than getting a new one from best buy, I'm not sure if I'll have to buy a new warranty, I don't know. I want to complain to Microsoft but would someone even legitimate listen to me or will I get some standard idiot in call center?.

Looks like it might have been used as a demonstration unit, possibly.

Best advise I can give is take it back, demand a replacement, they might argue that it doesn't affect the device's function but then you'll need to stick to your guns about the blemishes as it cost you nearly $1000

and the warranty should automatically cover the replacement as it's brand new, that's what you bought the warranty for :)

Thing about the warranty though when you use it you have to buy a new one to cover the new hardware you get, that's how best buy used to work when i exchanged my 360 a few times, I really want to complain to Microsoft this is ###### poor quality control. The box was fully sealed all stickers intact so I don't think it was used as a floor model, if they had tampered with the stickers I would surely have been able to tell.

Claiming on the warranty ends it?

Wow I didn't know that, my apologies

but in that case assuming it's less than 24 hours old, you can still make a claim under it's factory warranty, you'll have to make sure they understand that you want this matter dealt with under it's 1 (or 2) year factory warranty and not your extended one, and make sure you have a witness to the conversation. Here in the UK it's one way to make sure the stores do exactly what you specified.

Stand your ground with them, but more likely they will replace it if you make clear your intentions and dissatisfaction to the matter. (please don't be rude, just assertive enough to make sure you're understood)

Contact Microsoft directly.

They can direct you on how to proceed. Beyond that, all you can do is raise the issue with the store you bought it from.

Hopefully they will do the right thing.

What number should I call, I'm not entirely sure here to be honest.

I would second the idea of calling MS to at least get advise on what to do.

I would guess that you will need to exchange it at best buy regardless, but who knows how the best buy warranty applies. Does Best Buy have an exchange policy for anything bought recently that is not tied to an extended warranty?

To contact MS, you can start here:

You could try a live chat now or wait until the phone support is available later this morning to talk to someone.

I somehow expected to see it in pieces or something, from the way the thread is titled.  Honestly maybe I'm just cool with little things like that but seeing as how most of them, if not all of the marks, are on the bottom and never to be seen If it works fine I'd not bother changing it out for another one.   That's just me though.

I just spent almost a grand on the console, accessories, and stuff, shouldn't the damn thing be flawless?

A couple scratches or a brick through the middle, they are all the same, it's supposed to be brand new.

You don't buy a new car with a few scratches on the rear bumper ....

Agreed, as anyone who would buy a brand new car at a premium price would not accept a dent or scratch

This might not be the same thing, but the principal is the same, as you didn't get the cheapest one on the shelf.

That sucks, I hope you can get it sorted!

Thanks ! I'm sure it will be in the end. You know it's like the new toy feeling. When you open it up and it's molested before you even get the chance to touch it.

I was, again, speaking for myself.  And if it was a car then yes, but I don't think of a new Xbox in the same way I think of a new Car.

1000 is a lot of money for a lot of people in this country, so I expect damn good quality. Hell, even if I spent 5 bucks I would want something half decent.

I don't know where xbox ones are manufactured but I did hear about the problems in the sony (foxconn) plants, possibly the same issues here?

At least it's not overheating and sounding like a jet and the HDMI aren't broken  :p Just curious, some of the marks look like they would come off just by liking your finger and rubbing it.

I actually tried that real quick at first but they didn't budge it looks like they hit it with that wonder sponge thing that gets almost anything off. What's there is staying there they already removed what they could.

Those probably happened when it was being placed in it's package.   The Foxcom story, if true, was more about faulty parts inside causing problems.   I don't know if you've used it at all or not yet but if it works and all the parts are fine inside then it's not the same story as that.   If that is even true, still don't know.

The console seems to be in working order but who honestly knows if it was dropped and if there are any pieces that are cracked or whatever inside that might not fault for a year or so to come after it's been thoroughly ran in, I'm just very disappointed that I bought something new and flashy and it's banged up goods.

We're dealing with MICROSOFT here.

Not something like little Caesars.
