Francis rages about Microtransactions

Recommended Posts

I only recently started watching his videos (both his normal videos and his Francis rages videos) and I really like his style. In his normal videos especially, because he's very honest about his weight (and the hate he gets for it, among other things) and how he's trying to deal with it. I'm very happy for him that he just got married recently and that both Sony and to a lesser extent Microsoft (with Major Nelson) went out of their way to get boogie to press events and what not. You know, since he's a big time gamer :D

I don't see the point of buying stuff with microtransactions. It's lazy developers and/or greedy publishers that gives you 2 options in a game. Grind (for an eternity) or buy it and complete the goals by cheating. Don't you get bored after buying something? Are there any worthy challenges left afterwards? You're buying cheat "codes" these days. Grinding is also lazy game design no matter what. The challenge is in my opinion supposed to be something you figure out how to do. Complete a level in 2 minutes to unlock a little neat cheat. (Goldeneye, N64.) Get to the hardest place in the game with almost nothing and steal the best armor. (Fallout 2.) These things are nowadays usually called achievements/trophies that rarely gives you any reward.

The more full-priced games that comes with day one DLC and microtransactions, the more it's going to get abused if people keep buying the games. If I pay a full price for a game I just want a complete game that is fun and challenging.
