We have to put a stop to the Nickel&Dime'ing before it gets out of hand.

I have had my Xbox One since since it dropped on day 1. My first game purchased was NBA2K14, a physical copy of the game.

While I do enjoy the game there is something I noticed, the game is designed to milk you dry. How? You ask. Simple there is a VC (Virtual Currency) shop in just about every menu of the game. Sure you can grind it out to earn your points, but but by the time you feel you are making progress, NBA2K16 will be on shelves by then (notice I skipped 2K15). The grind isn't the problem. It's the grind without reward, that's the problem. I can pay $2.00 and just like that stats (depending on what game mode you are in) can be improved for the better. Drop a $20.00 and you can improve drastically. Drop $40, and your a legend. No need to even play the game now. Yep, just like that. This zaps some of the fun away if you ask me.

I'm not into racing games at all, but I decided to borrow my friends FORZA while his Xbox One was being replaced by Microsoft. And what do I see standing out like a sore thumb. Yep you guess it. Buy some tokens, that way you don't have to grind it out. And if you do decide to grind it out, chances are your still not going to be able to afford the car you want.

We as gamers should not stand here and accept this from developers. The grind isn't the problem, it's that you much of nothing for grinding it out. It's seems like we have to pay the $60 tag for entry into the game, and then pay additional $$$ to get the full value of the game.

How ironic, it's Nintendo (whom I've been very hard on the past 5-months or so). That has not tried to milk our wallets for every dollar in it.

If the games are going to be free, then you can micro transaction your games. But you are not going to charge me $60 for entry and then another X-amount of dollars for progression.

Keep this garbage on Smartphones and tablets where it belongs.

Welcome to the new age of console gaming, where you don't event have to game (or grind) to achieve better results. It's ridiculous, games primary focus it's the entertainment value they have and the requirement time you spend improving your skills to achieve better results, thus getting better rewards. If this is skipped by paying for those results, thus getting rewards by buying them, then how come you are playing a game? Unless it's a stock market sim, i find this ratter unpleasant and unenjoyable.

I feel the consumers brought this on themselves.  People always complained it took forever to progress through the games in order to gather the added benefits.  As a result, the created a way for impatient people to obtain the benefit...at a cost.

The choice is yours to pay or not.

Topic related, I share this guys views on a lot of things included on what he has to say about micro-transactions in games. Both MS and Sony are guilty, it's no surprise since they're corporations

I never buy DLC, and I won't be participating in any micro-transaction economics. As is, I already dropped Microsoft due to their monetization of the dashboard and XBLG requirement for Netflix. If Sony does this crap too, I won't be using a PS5 either. I'm quite happy with Steam's "Big Picture Mode".

It's pretty unfortunate to see this crap in AAA games, but then I won't buy any game that requires slow grinding for you to make any real progress.

Spot on. But I have to say that even grinding is bad. What's called achievements and trophies these days should give you in-game rewards (like it was in the past), not tedious grinding or microtransactions.

Would you rather pay 120-180 for modern games with the graphics and work that's gone into them, or would you rather they "tax" the rich and stupid ?

This garbage should not even be on smartphones/tablets. Greed is #1 on every1's mind/agenda. which is retarded.

I absolutely agree with you, but i don't think MSFT would ...

as it was Ballmer who proclaim: Tablet = PC, PC = Tablet,

and since XB1 are somewhat similar to PC:

- similar hardware (x86 family processor, DDR3 ram, USBs, BluRay, etc.. etc..)

- similar software (OS Win 8.?, directX API family)

- similar network/cloud/internet services with it PC counterpart

so, the above Ballmer's equation can be read as: Tablet = XB1, XB1 = Tablet

therefore logical progression is that XB1 will also inherit the similar garbage that was on Tablet & Smartphone.

Afterall, Microsoft want unification of Tablet, Smartphone, PC, and XB1,

and that unification would include unification in business model.

This is how NBA2K14 is structured like this. After grinding out a few games (I'm talking quite a few games) you still don't really have the VC to improve your player or team in any significant way.

There has to be a proper balance in the way the VC is distributed...

I want to grind it out (because I want to play the game of basketball)... But there has to be a little more slack in the reward system.

It's currently structured like this "Play to go nowhere fast" or "Pay us and we'll give you the results that you want"

If you do the My Player mode, and you do everything they ask your player may start with a 67-68 average. That's a just below average Player in the NBA. I gurantee you that after grinding it out for a full season, your player may be a 69-71 tops after put some upgrades in there. The price of upgrades goes up drastically, but the payout for performance never changes.

It's a setup to fail system, or pay us to get what you need/want to be successful system.

It's pretty sad how 'in your face' it is.  Fortza asks you every time when purchasing a new car, do you want to spend your winnings or purchase with 'tokens'.  It's pretty sad, and I wish there was an option to disable them appearing in the game.

Half the reason I gave up on gaming totally!

The ONLY games I've ever liked are the sports games and I'm NOT paying anything to gain something that SHOULD be a part of the game.

Never have liked all the die and start over games anyway, so thusly, haven't gamed much at all in years!

I remember having a similar conversation on neowin years ago when dlc was just starting to be a thing. And people said it was fine then. Microtransactions are the next step in the process and it's only gonna get worse.

I can't wait until we have to pay subscriptions to play our single player offline games.

just like Battlefield 3 when it came out I worked and earned every unlock I had then they came out with the packs and everyone just bought everything that's not cool

I'm ok with micro-transactions providing they are there only as a shortcut and don't lead to an artificially hardened game to encourage use of the micro-transactions (like the NBA2k games).
