Hello,

(BTW, this is not for time killer games or games with no objectives)

I tried to word this as easiest possible.

Just to be clear:

A game is structured playing, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool.

Sport (or sports) is all forms of usually competitive physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators.

Electronic sports is a term for organized video game competitions, especially between professionals

Now I like playing video games because its fun but I do it to win/finish/complete/online win/etc. Just playing a game for fun, while lasts, is just boring. Its the reason I dont replay any single player game once I finish it.

Just want to know Neowin's opinion on this :)

If you think Ive worded it incorrectly, please comment and Ill try to word it different so its clear.

Thank you

So essentially what motivates you to play and continue playing a game?

I used to be an obsessive completionist for a time. I felt like I had to complete and defeat everything but it became to time consuming and unpleasant so now it's just for fun and sometimes a time killer (mobile gaming on commutes, etc.)

Hello,

So essentially what motivates you to play and continue playing a game?

Reaching the end and finishing it. I dont do side missions, collect the 100 collectables (unless they are neccesary like Bioshock), etc. I just want to end/finish the game even if it says at the end "40% completele"

I wish I could do that. I have the worst backlog.

As competitive as I am, if something stops being fun I'll stop playing it online. That's the major reason I gave up on CoD years ago. It turned into a game that lacks any skill and relying on kill streak perks to do everything for you. MW2 was the last straw for me, when they went OTT with airstrike type streaks.

I'm no completions but I do go slow and try to do as much as I can on my first play through because I play for fun and part of that for me is the story.  This is why I'm a SP gamer first and a very minor MP player.  Once I've finished the game and the story is known to me i'll never replay a game over, specially not a RPG or something similar that takes me 40+ hours to finish.

Same here, really. Apart from 'The Last of Us'. Considering playing that again, some time soon.

Trust me, ya don't.   You waste a lot of time doing trivial ###### in games. You work out pretty quickly that when a game is billed as having xx hrs of content, it is actually 85-90% padded with silly side quests and running around collecting crap.

I play games purely for entertainment and for my enjoyment which is why I can't stand multiplayer gaming.

I could sit and watch someone play an MMORPG and I'd be dumbfounded and irritated by it. The amount of time these people waste standing around planning stuff, bartering in-game stuff, talking about endless mind numbing figures, stats and other drivel just sends me to sleep. I've absolutely no idea why anyone would be that serious about a game, it doesn't make it fun.. it sounds like a job. I'd just want to give them all a slap and just run in there and play the game. There is no need for it. :p

I play games, mostly single player, because I hate playing with random morons on Live.  I will play coop with friends though but never a death match against another real person.  I dont go for achievements either.  When gaming becomes work, i prefer not to play anymore.

Just to have fun, that's the whole point. Used to take gaming more seriously, EQ & WoW were especially bad, but now it's all about the fun. Extra bonus if a good storyline is involved.
