Lol, that's like the worst timing ever to give up on IE since it only got dramatically better since IE9

I know standards wise IE got a lot better from IE9 onwards, however in regards to functionality and user interface it didn?t really do the job for me any more.

Sure it?s not a bad web browser these days, however IE can?t sync my bookmarks, extensions and settings between multiple os's, along with mobile devices. In comparison other web browsers can.

Looks like you can pin modern apps to the task bar now, unless you could do that before and i just never noticed.

You couldn't do that before, so it's definitely a novelty. There's also a new option 'Show Store apps on the taskbar'  in Taskbar Properties.

We might be able to pin and see running apps in the taskbar but I doubt we'll get windowed store apps till 9. And the metro task switcher isn't a "hidden taskbar" it's a touch version of alt+tab. Metro apps show up in the alt+tab switcher as well.

The original taskbar isn't a option for a pure metro device that's touch only and doesn't have the desktop. You won't be running windowed apps on a 8" or 10" tablet. The metro task switcher is perfect for when you're using touch, and besides I and others use the alt+tab switcher a lot on the desktop. They all have their own place and just having the taskbar doesn't work for everything.

I think they should just keep the original taskbar. It should be formatted for usage in Metro as well though.

It won't work in Metro. In Metro, the task switcher was designed to be used with your thumb, which is why it is the way it is, and where it's located.

WZOR has posted some new screen-shots of the 2014 Update, and Neowin News has also detail reported about it.

 

Some guys might wonder if the new power button on Start Screen would have something new (like the "Slide-to-shutdown" thing for example)......well, it's just the same like the menu from Charm Bar, as shown from this win8china blog:

You might notice that there is no "Sleep", but on the win8china pic of their Charm Bar, there is no "Sleep" either, so maybe their machine doesn't support sleep, or some other reason.

What a brilliant powerpoint presentation it must have been to explain the board of directors, how people will empty their purses towards store apps if it was shoved down loyal customers throats.

I'm glad this option is in there. I like having my metro apps tucked away to the left. 

 

I think these changes further support that the Windows 7 Start Menu isn't coming back.

 

Of course. If Microsoft is planning on bringing the Start Menu back, I don't think they would just dump the one from Windows 7 into Windows 8.
