Home made "apple crate" shelves

I took on a project to replace a Billy bookcase with some home-made "apple crate" style boxes. I designed the plans in SketchUp and bought the wood, and a nail gun.

 

There are about 1500 tacks and about 75 metres of wood board here. Then I filled it up with junk. :p

 

Has anyone else built and planned anything from scratch like this?

They are the only two remaining from my huge collection as a kid. I think I gave them away or lost them over the years. Stupid me. I might buy a handful more off eBay to bump up the numbers.
