D!ABOL!C Posted February 16, 2014 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I did some searching online and cannot find any solutions so I thought I would pick the brains of the gamers here. I picked up a used copy of Heavenly Sword and gave it a spin. It prompts to install a patch and it installs fine and then the game tries to start. It gets to the Sony Presents screen, then the Ninja Theory logo and then the screen goes black. The ROM drive does not spin and there is no hard drive activity. If I press the PS button, the XMB does not pop up and If I press the the power button, the green light just starts blinking. I can eject the disc but then it just shuts off. I deleted the patch and tried starting the game without installing the patch and the same result happens. I am attempting to play this on my Slim (the first slim, not the newer slim) but I have an old Fat PS3 I have repaired I have not tried on yet. Does anyone have any clue what is up with this game? Fortunately I payed less than $5 for it and I can exchange it for credit if necessary, but I would like to see if I can get it working. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks! Sometimes FW installs break certain games (it happened with Uncharted some years ago), and since HS isn't being played that much right now, it could slip by unnoticed. Yep, no custom firmwares, just whatever the latest version is 4.5.5 I think? So we can discount the PS3 being faulty, do other disc games work? Yep, system is good to go. I put in the Lightning Returns disc and it plays fine and I was playing DMC digitally before that. Seeing how it's a PS3 launch title, if the most recent FW breaks it, it will take quite a vocal effort for SONY to produce a fix :/ (You should also post on the Playstation forums). Edit: Yup, working on my launch fat PS3 too, so I don't think a fw update has killed the game. If you aren't seeing the game install progress bar I think there's probably an issue with the disc. Return it to the store and if they make an issue about no visible scratches tell them to test in front of you. They'll see it's the problem and swap it. I do get prompted for the patch, but the installation part does not happen. Does it occur before the Logo Screens come up? The hilarious thing is that if I eject the disc, I get a menu that says to please re-insert disc, of course nothing happens after that. I even read to try playing the game disconnected from the internet and the same result happens, minus the installation of the patch of course. So at this point, my only option is to try on my PS3 Fat this weekend, if not, off to return.
