Naughty Dog: Chance of a TLOU 2 is "50/50"; Sony gives us freedom of choice

The Last of Us? Creative Director Neil Druckmann and Game Directior Bruce Stanley responded quite a few questions from the fan during an Ask Us Anything session on Reddit.

If you?re asking about a sequel? right now I?d say it?s 50/50.

Sony has complete trust in us. It?s really up to us to come up with something that will keep the team inspired for the next several years ? which is why we don?t take the decision of what we?ll work on next lightly.

Dunno really ? the DLC is on the PS3, so we haven?t gotten a whole lot of time with the ?next-next gen? hardware. But I?m excited about having more memory, until we use it all up again!

Do not want, take your talent and pour it into a new IP if you enjoyed deviating from the teen rated-indiana jones style of Uncharted.

TLoU ended perfectly, and while the characters and world are pretty great, and the sequel no doubt full of talent, I do not want Joel and Ellie's story continued any further.

I haven't played TLoU yet (I know, I am a poor excuse of a gamer and a horrible human being) but everything I have read suggested fans are not interested in this becoming a franchise.

I seem to recall them saying somewhere that if they were to develop a sequel to TLoU, then it would be different characters but within the same universe.

I haven't actually played TLoU (please don't hurt me) but surely that would be a much better proposition than forcing a continuation of a story that (apparently) finished so well?

As someone who has finished the Last of Us, I would hate to see a continuation of the Joel/Ellie universe.
I would like to see either a Joel/Tess prequel so to speak, or different characters altogether.
Joel and Ellies story ended perfectly.

It's disappointing how many people haven't played TLoU (looking at you again as well Andy), get on it! :p

Doing someone else's story would be fine, but I challenge even ND to find better chemistry than Joel and Ellie.

I don't get why people don't want Joel / Ellie sequel to be together. I finished the game few weeks ago

and I felt that at the end he lied to her to make her believe in something was not truth. I would love to see in a TLOUS 2, Ellie found out that Joel lied to her and see what happens.

Steady on ND, I haven't even played the first one

I have a feeling I know what happens and why it doesn't warrant a sequel but ND haven't been ones to make 1 game and leave. If they do make another TLoU I'm sure they'll justify it and handle it properly.

Spoiler tags please, the game isn't that old

I reckon they could get away with another game based on the same characters.

Then if they wanted to franchise it. They could write the second in a way that leaves it open for a third.

Personally i'd like just the single game. It will make the ending more poignant.

I wish ND would just do another Jak and Daxter.

I would like them to do another funny, colourful platformer.

While TLoU and Uncharted are good games. Gameplay/genre wise, they've played it very safe.

I didn't care much for the game like everyone else seems to. I did like the idea of the fungus/spores thing considering it's similarity to the Zombie Ants and how it kills the host and produces the spores. Story seemed ok but I didn't get into it at all. Although a sequel with the perspective from the military side would be very interesting as apposed to the oppressed citizens, done properly could make the player perceive the govt.'s actions differently.

If they don't make The Last of Us 2 they would be incredibly stupid. They created a fantastic new IP of which there is an insane demand for a sequel.

Also remember they have '2 teams' there since TLoU was created in tandem by a seperate team there, so they have scope for it.

Or they could release a definitive edition for PS4. Id love to play it again and don't have the chance to play the DLC now as I sold my PS3.
