12 Gaming Consoles You've Never Heard Of

Recommended Posts

I had a JVC X'Eye (Wondermega in the US) and it was ####ing awesome. I didnt have to lug around the Genesis and Sega CD and I had the older top stack versions. I got it for $200 on clearence at Best Buy in 1998 and had it untill it died last year. Now I cant find one to save my life. Although for retro home gaming, nothing beats this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_Geo_(console)#Home

I knew of every one of those except the Epoch Cassette Vision.

To be fair though vintage gaming consoles is one of my hobbies.

Same, to a degree, Epoch was the only one I didn't recognise

Heard of all of them (like Thrackerzod it's a hobby).

Own two of them (Panasonic Q and Nomad).

Gizmondo was a heap. They even had a store dedicated to it in London!

I went in there once. It was so depressing.

Heard of all of those except the Apple Pinpin.

The SEGA ones are easy for anyone who's followed any form of Sega based magazine / comic during the 90's.

I'd only heard of two of them, though that's not surprising as I've always been into PC gaming.

+ Sega Pluto & Neptune

Neptune never saw production / retail though unfortunately, just scores of wishful thinking SEGA fans.

Ahh I had the Vectrex way back when, was a fun little unit minus the crappy controller and the overlays. Star Castle got plenty of playtime. That aside think the only ones I've never heard of was that Casette Vision and the one Panasonic unit.

They missed a bunch. I remember reading about all these before including some that they didn't mention. Like the VideoBrain, Radioshack scoreboard although those weren't really consoles in the technical term. How about the Arcadia 2001, Rollet VideoColor, Action Max, XaviXport...kinda like the Wii and unique that the processor was on each cart, not the console, NeoGeo CD

quite a few more  but i'll end it there.
