No, not here. Some people on Facebook. I want to smack them repeatedly, but cops frown upon that sort of thing, lmao.

Ah. I canceled my Facebook account. Too many maroons.

I've just came back from watching it, it truly returns Star Wars universe back to a Space Opera. Roll on Episode VIII and Rouge One!

I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I said, but I meant to ask a question of those who have already seen it. It's a spoiler question, so DON'T read it (PLEASE!) unless you have seen the film.

Just got back from seeing in. It really felt just like Star Wars of the old and then some. The jokes were there, the action was there and yes a few surprises. I only wish it was a bit longer, guess we will just have to wait for episode 8

My only complaint is it was a little *too* much like the Star Wars of old, in that it was literally the same plot as A New Hope lol

Thats the thing though Star Wars has always been about history repeating it self . Even if it is similar it is still very different in many ways. The outcome of this story, with the father and maybe daughter relationship can be completely different than the Luke / Anakin relationship

To no surprise....The Force Awakens has smashed box office records.

-Biggest domestic debut with $238 million (Previous record: “Jurassic World” with $208.8 million)

-Second-biggest global debut with $517 million (Record holder: “Jurassic World” with $524.9 million)

**TFA does not open in China until Jan 9 which is the second largest movie market.

-Biggest Thursday preview gross with $57 million (Previous record holder: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” with $43.5 million)

-First film to post single-day gross over $100 million

-Fastest film to $100 million and $200 million (Previous record holder: “Jurassic World” on both counts)

-Biggest December debut (Previous record: “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” with $84.6 million)

-Highest per-theater average for a wide release with $57,568 (Previous record: “Jurassic World” with $48,855)

-Biggest opening weekend of all time in U.K., Russia, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Denmark, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Iceland, Serbia and New Zealand

-Biggest Imax debut with $48 million

-Most pre-sales with over $100 million (Previous record: “The Dark Knight Rises” with $25 million)

-Best Friday gross with $120.5 million (Previous record: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” with $91.1 million)

-Third best Saturday gross with $68.7 million (Record holders: “Jurassic World” with $69.6 and “Marvel’s The Avengers” with $69.5 million)

-Best opening for a “Star Wars” film (Previous record: “Revenge of the Sith” with $108.4 million)

I totally agree. As a standalone movie, I would put it in between Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope. However, with the backstory and all of the character development from the prior 6 movies, the story was far too derivative. I enjoyed it for entertainment value, but it seemed far more derivative than I had hoped for.

Did anybody else think this was a continuity problem? See below.

I noticed this too

For me the real test will be episode 8. I am alright that they set this one up similar to a New Hope, its a similar story, but new in many ways. A lot of the old was hinted at in the trailers. However now that they have gone down this path, I am interested to see what route they take for EP 8. Will it be similar to Empire Strikes back or will they take a new approach? Star Wars in many ways is about history repeating itself, but I just wonder if Luke is going to play a big role next movie in helping prevent we he saw growing up.

I enjoyed it but beyond the Millenium Falcon porn, it does seem largely derivative and the pacing is off because they tried to squeeze in too much - the planning scene for the main attack came off as an afterthought at best.  And C-3PO is dangerously close to being the new Jar Jar.  Ep8 is going to have to bring it.

Where is the notion that 'history repeats itself' rooted in the SW canon?  Are you speaking to 'myth' archetypes? (Which I would say is the biggest thing missing from FA - Disney playing it safe.  There is a reason many cite 'The Force' on religious census polls.)
