Was anyone immediately pumped up for the movie after seeing the trailer? I sure was! The effects we have today that were used in the new trailer were incredible and made me want to see the movie even more!

You were probably blown away by the special effects in the prequels as well. I really wouldn't judge it on pretty graphics.

I thought about this too, but they showed Vader's mask while he was saying "my father has it", so it seemed logical to be Luke...

IDK.  The mask looks really strange for one.  Now if Luke's son was talking then the father reference would be Luke and the person he is talking to would be Luke's grandson? And the sister reference is a granddaughter?  Don't know if the time line allows for this.

Actually this makes more sense. Since the story is set about 30 years from the events in RotJ, it seems plausible.

I'm loving the new ship designs and the new Stormtroopers.

I'll spoiler tag this, but it looks like the Stormtroopers now fight for

the First Order and the Rebels are now the Resistance

correct me if I'm wrong but according to the book series, Luke is supposed to be or become evil in this installment.

I thought they made all the books non cannon as far as the movies are concerned? I'm pretty sure I remember reading that around here at some point.

that's exactly what bums me out. like the jason bourne books were about carlos the jackal, why do they have to diverge?

Question:

since the emporer and vader are dead, the empire is dead.. or is it?

But isn't that the same speech (with small changes) that Luke told Leia after the Battle of Endor?
