Xbox One UK sales spike but PS4 still in control

Microsoft?s Xbox One has been the best-selling games console for four weeks in a row, MCV understands.

The machine has benefited from a ?30 price cut, while the launch of Titanfall last week caused a surge in console sales of 96 per cent.

But retailers have told MCV that PS4 remains in control, and that Xbox?s recent success has been aided by shortages of Sony?s console.

In fact, a fresh supply of PS4s last weekend caused a 72 per cent rise in sales.

MCV understands that Sony is preparing to release extra stock into the trade for this Friday?s launch of Infamous: Second Son, which is PlayStation?s big hope for the quarter.

Every sale is good for the industry and competition, I love how people try to spin these sorts of articles for clicks.

 

With the pricecuts and the Titanfall bundle, I very much would be surprised if the X1 wasn't on-top of March NPD. Why do people also claim the PS4 is still under supply shortage? I can walk in any store around here and pick one up, even Amazon have had them for a while.

Maybe its just where you live, but here in Australia there is currently no store that has any stock of PS4's for sale. PS4's are still backlogged for a few months here at least, while XB1 units are selling better bcause of Titanfall, but funny enough, its the PC copies that have sold out while just today I saw many XB1 and XB1 Titanfall's on display. 

Anyway as mentioned earlier, long as both console sells well then im happy.

I've never ever in my life seen a PS4 in a retail store; and it has been out here for months.

It's all down to personal experiences. They are on the shelves in all the Game stores near me. They were out of stock for 2 weeks after launch for me.

I see them in the stores here all the time. In fact, I don't think there was time where I didn't see them on the shelves.

I have to wonder about the location of people saying they see PS4's in stock a lot.  I've been to places around Dallas and up to Texarkana and try to make a point to walk through electronics.  There are always a full stock of Xbox One's and never a PS4.  But then I think back to the launch of Windows 95, I lived in Arkansas at the time.  Huge lines at midnight and Windows 95 was snatched up everywhere.  But I lived in a small town.  I just went in to walmart mid morning and picked up a copy from a fully stocked shelve.  Not a person in sight because no one within an hour of the store really cared about computer stuff.  I'd say that probably holds true for the PS4.  If you dig into the woods deep enough, I'm sure you find plenty.  But I'd say generally speaking at any decent sized city, they are hard to find.  I'm not going to buy either for a while myself.

I snapped this at best buy 2 weeks after launch

 

Individuals experiences can be just that, individual. Does your experience reflect in the NPD sales? If not you can assume situations like yours may not as widespread as joe blogg's picture of no stock on the shelves. It's funny how the pictures that surface online are 90% one in stock or the other, does no one like snapping pictures of both in stock/out of stock?  :laugh:

 

Not that you probably wanted an analytical answer from me, but there you go.

Exactly, the sales numbers prove that the ps4 is much more likely to be out of stock than the X1, hence more pictures of the ps4 being out of stock.

Fly out to the UK, get to Lincolnshire and grab one ;)

Might be a tad expensive with the flights, and having to import every single game afterwards though, unless you make the jump to digital only. :D

 

I'm curious to see what will happen to the Xbox sales in April when they launch in new countries, right now its only in 13 compared to the PS4s 48. Considering the sales gap between the consoles the Xboxs sales look pretty impressive.

Microsoft really dropped the ball on this one, PS4 demand outnumbers supply and they should be taking advantage of this. Push out your console now and take advantage of the people who are waiting for the competition, otherwise you risk losing more sales to them..... actually who am I kidding this is Microsoft we are talking about :pinch:

Yeah that was ntkrnl's leak, which looks like it was pointing to news of the announcement rather than the release in tier 2 itself.

Today was the first time I saw a ps4 in stock at my local Walmart. Was very tempted to buy it just based on the fact who knows when they will have them again.
