CatnipOligarchy
peter gammons said that kevin millwood and bartolo colon wont likely sign with anyone until andy pettitte makes his decision. according to gammons, if pettitte goes to the astros or the braves, which is a very real possibility, then the yankees will go after colon or millwood, likely colon first. if colon signs with the yankees, millwood is then expected to begin testing the market and is also rumored to be considering a return to atlanta. mattmatik
yes, i despise chipper jones. ive never really liked him, even during the mvp season, he always has a chip on his shoulder. he doesnt hustle, and seems to think the franchise revolves around him. he was recently shocked to discover that he was rumored to be traded. he went on sports radio in atlanta and whined about not being wanted and whatnot. he has yet to accept his move to left field, which came as a result of his sucking at 3rd base. he needs to just shut up and play ball. I agree on the hustle part...most of the time. Seems like during May, June, July he is just lollygagging around the bases, and unwilling to sacrafice his body in the outfield. BUT If it were not for Chipper in August, September, then the Braves would have lost their division last year and the year when he torched the Mets. That's the one thing I absolutely cannot understand is how cold the Braves' bats get around the end of September and in the playoffs. I don't want him traded, though. That's insane. Chipper, along with Andruw, should be career Braves. I'd also rather the Braves re-sign Maddux and get Pettite than Millwood or Colon (they need a strong lefty BAD). theprotege
good god, wt f are the yankees doing? ...as long as the yanks lose and milwalkee finishes last in both attendance and the LEAGUE i couldn't be happier...i too would like to see chicago or boston win it...boston needs it and what better time to get it than when money bags is still in control in NY. i pray milwalkee goes down the tubes and takes seligs monkey ass with it. as for montreal...please guys, get an owner, id pay good money to have more canadian teams and i will die if milwalkee stays and you go...too bad mohammed and malvo couldn't snipe selig...god i hate that poptart. I also saw sexon is out of MIL...that means more suckage...WOO HOO! and the braves...well, i'm a southern boy, and you can have the braves...the only one worth a poo now a days is smotlz. glavine, millwood, and sheff are now gone...andrew is about their only life outside of lopez and hes likely to go as well. chipper, hes just lazy and that goes for half the team...furcal...if he could hit he'd be insane. maddux...i hope his career doesn't continue in the same way as 2003...he KILLED me in my fantasy league in the first half. i dunno, this off season will be interesting, but unless there is some NFL style salary arrangement...baseball will continue to blow, continue to lose fans, and continue to **** me off...unless more cubbies and bosox start winning...hell, i'd even take a detroit visit to the playoffs... Chipper, along with Andruw, should be career Braves. I'd also rather the Braves re-sign Maddux and get Pettite than Millwood or Colon (they need a strong lefty BAD). chipper doesnt show up in the playoffs either though. he hit 2 HRs in that game 4 against the cubs last year, but there were 4 or 5 balls hit to left field in games 2 and 5 in atlanta that he didnt hustle on and the runner was able to easily make it to 2nd or 3rd, when a good throw may have been able to hold them a base. in the playoffs, every base is crucial. my theory on the braves annual collapse revolves around bobby cox. not around his managerial decisions, but his managing style. Everyone loves playing for him during the regular season. they say hes like a father figure and wants everyone to do well. thats great and all, but that doesnt cut it in october. he needs to toughen up in the playoffs if they are ever gonna win another ring. Atlanta already has a strong lefty in Hampton, but since florida is paying most of his salary because of a brillian GM move by Schuerholz last season, they could potentially afford to pick up pettitte. if they resigned maddux and picked andy up, they would have Maddux, Hampton, Paul Byrd (returning from injury), Andy Pettitte, and Horacio Ramirez. Thats still a top 5 rotation. The braves are still the favorites in the NL East, but they need to retain their core and pick up a starting pitcher and someone to replace sheff, hopefully guererro. Galley
The Expos should re-sign Vlad. The team will have much more resale value with him, than without him. threetonesun
theyve got schilling now, so it wont kill them to part with lowe. nomar is loved in boston and from what ive heard from him, he wants to stay and would probably take less money to do so. but hey nomar, if things dont work out in boston, we'd love to have you in atlanta Lowe is huge for home games though, and it's not like the Red Sox don't need more pitchers. He could easily go from starter to relief. Just as long as he doesn't end up being a closer again. And for everyone who bitches about the Yankees, it's worth pointing out the Yankees have been winning World Series repeatedly for the last hundred years, well before money became such a factor.
