:boo:

what a waste of a post.

anyways, if some of the more simplistic msstyles were ported over (I can't get skinstudio working so I can't do it), I would probably go and buy windowblinds. However, for now, it's just not worth it for me.

Which msstyles don't exist as WindowBlinds visual styles already? Virtually all the remotely popular msstyles are already available in WindowBlinds versions. Go onto WinCustomize and do a search under the one you're looking for.

WindowBlinds 4.2 is now available btw on Object Desktop and in the enhanced version.

Bangbang, if you want, I'll convert it for you. Just give me a link or send me the msstyle.

By the way Frogboy and everyone else. The msstyle -> Windowblinds conversion is almost perfect. The only thing I have trouble with is menu items, the menu separator just doesn't exist and the menu mouseover image seems to be too small. Both are very easy to fix though.

also i find these converted styles arent they are VERY buggy, it leaves me no reason to pay for something when I can get better on msstyles. and the WB only ones are usually big and obtusive or small ones offer nothing the msstyles dont.

It's true that alot of ported themes are buggy. Thats not WB's fault though, it's the authors. Get on their case about fixing the bugs and they will, without feedback, nothing more will come of the style. I ported my watercolor msstyle over to WB (before SS converted) and it's pretty much bug free. Authors just need to take their time and do the job right the first time, and when bugs do show up, fix them.

there are quite a few good msstyles that currently have no WB port. in fact i had to stop using WB for the time being because my 3 fave themes currently have no port: iBar, GuiPod, and Composite X. i definitely like the WB technology a lot better than msstyles and prefer to use it. the only problem is getting the themes i like, and the fact that there is only one original WB theme i like

You can download the new Windowblinds 4.2 here: http://download.com.com/3000-2326-10026826.html :D

If you check Stardock.com "Windowblinds" there can you download v.4.1 from download.com

But download.com has updatet it to Windowblinds 4.2...

Is it just me or is 4.2 REALLY buggy?

i.e.

- Toolbar themes that don't load right away, or at all. Same with animations which all tend to have a big discoloured block behind them.

- Taskbar button menu selection bmp's are doubled up for some odd reason.

- If you select 'only skin theme aware apps', progress bars are no longer skinned even if you switch that option back off.

- Spin controls are still massively f*cked up.

- Favourites toolbar/menu hybrid still isnt being skinned properly, and reverts when the '-more-' (why not use an arrow?) is pressed.

I have other complaints, but since alot of these major bugs have been lingering around for build after build, I'm sure the petty minor stuff won't be fixed anytime soon.

Don't get me wrong here I like WB, I just don't get why these problems havent been fixed yet. I know they've all been mentioned numerous times by many people.

Toolbar themes will only work if the current skin has a shellstyle.

If animations have a big discoloured block behind them then I think you are the first to report anything like that. Some animations may assume a fixed colour background, but most should make use of the transparency support in the OS. A screenshot of this may be helpful.

Whats wrong with spin controls? As far as I can tell they skin perfectly here.

The favourites toolbar menu was never designed to be skinned and there are some compromises we had to put in.

As for changing only skin theme aware apps, I can assure you that if you turn that back off, the progress bars will revert to being skinned. Please note that changing that setting will only impact newly opened apps, not apps which are already running.

Please don't assume that just because you see an issue stardock know about it. Let us know!

Well I know stardocks knows about it because I have seen most of these issues mentioned by others before.

Turning off the theme aware option doesnt bring back the progress bar skinning. I've tried a reinstall of WB, rebooting, unloading and reloading skins, nothing works.

After a fresh install the toolbar icons and animations seem to be working properly now.

The taskbar menu highlights are still messed up.

I said the spin controls are messed because they arnt skinned in the same way msstyles skin them. I had to make compromises with my watercolor skin because I couldnt make them look the way they are supposed to in their current WB form. Also, sometimes, depending on the dialog, they look different. Either they are right together or they have a noticeable gap between the bottom and top spinner.

At least the taskbar locking is working right again :)

For what it's worth, I'm now finally happy with WindowBlinds. It's taken a long time but I think that, as a finished product, it's finally there. (Or as near as dammit.)

It's fast and stable and so I really don't see what more you can ask for. With regards to the lack of themes for a personal taste, that can hardly be blamed on Stardock. I've always been a dedicated StyleXP user until 4.2 and now I can't really see any reason not to use WindowBlinds.

Certainly, the theme I am running right now (Steel by Chris Mitchell) is flawless and, without doubt, the best skin I have ever used for WindowBlinds, with regards to functionality, clarity, speed, and technical perfection. I only wish more authors would now follow suit.

Regarding the progress bar issue, it sounds like the skin progress bars option is unticked in wbconfig (see basic settings page). The themeaware option doesn't toggle this as it just alters a setting internally to disable progressbars, but its possible you accidentally changed that setting while trying to get progress bars to work when in themeaware only mode.

Spin controls being different from msstyles doesn't actually make them wrong. (our scrollbars & progressbars work differently from msstyles, but they are not wrong) I think some screenshots showing what you wanted and what you get may help me to understand the problem and look into changing them.

Nope, all the settings are right and it's still not skinned. I do know how to use and troubleshoot softwar;);)

Here are the bugs I've mentioned in picture form:

Progress bar bug:

progressbarbug.jpg

*edit* Ok for the hell of it I reinstalled again, and deleted all of the WB registry settings before installing again, and it seems to have fixed this problem. But the others remain. Is there a reason why progress bars have to be unthemed when using themeaware mode?

Taskbar menu bug:

double.jpg

Spinner bugs or inconsistancy:

spinbug1.jpg

spinbug2.jpg

spinbug3.jpg

spinbug4.jpg

(2 of these were from the same dialog in fact)

Ideally I'd like all my spinners to look the same and I'd prefer they looked like this:
