foobar2000 mobile kickstarter

Recommended Posts

I have been using foobar up untill I found, and have started using Plex, even the free version is amazing in what it does, I have since not only got it install here at home, but also on my dedicated server, so as I can stream straight over the net to my devices (tablets, laptops and mobiles) and also for my media library at home, I am running plex server on also, which I can also access remotely, although with a more restricted upload speed.

I have also been using Google Play Music (20,000 uploaded song limit, size doesn't appear to matter, for free), on my phone and tablet, for music on the move, both of these 2 serve my purposes more than adequately and even the kids and partner have moved over to using them also,my partner has been using the google music on her iphone at the gym over their wifi there.

For all those interested, I would recommend looking into these 2 apps, especially Plex.

The dev said he doesn't want the free version to have ads:

I know, he was responding to me. :)

I find Peter P. one of the lowest morons I ever met in virtual space. So no, I'll never give him even a penny.

?

But for WP/RT and iOS, no I don't see why you'd go with an over complicated player like this over the built in one. Sure it supports more formats, but that's not really and issue when it comes to music anyway.

What's your recommendation for a good music player for RT that supports most popular formats including FLAC too?

My recommendation. It would be to convert, use FLAC as your archival format, then convert when you copy to devices, windows and other apps can do this automatically on transfer, even without significant slowdown. There no reason to use FLAC on a mobile/RT device.

Maybe you haven't had your eyes open.

Foobar is an excellent player, I agree with him.

Its lightweight, stable, has a lot of features in a small package, and is extremely versatile and extensible.

I don't really have any particular desire for a mobile foobar app, but I love the desktop app.

Perhaps not for you, but as long as I have the space why not? The Surface tablets have Wolfson DACs and 24/96 FLACs sound good with a nice pair of headphones.

The question is, will you have the high quality headphones that can reproduce the correct sounds?

And even in a double blind ABX you won't hear the difference between a 320 MP3 or other high quality compressed audio and the FLAC.

Some manage it,  you know, with very particular examples. But I'd just prefer to give up (an keep my flac  )

I do (ones that work for me and my setup).

Perhaps, but that's not the point. Not to sound curt but I didn't ask for your opinion on my file format choices and it's not up for discussion (I'm guessing you're not the target audience for the Pono either, which I'm waiting eagerly to try out as soon as they deliver mine). I don't like to go on converting for various devices I own and don't like to bother with multiple copies of files either. Have already pre-ordered a couple of 128GB microSDs and if Metro Foobar for Windows Phones and tablets ever comes about I'll definitely pitch in.

You can scrap together a FLAC player for WP in a few days, if you have some C# knowledge. I remember seeing a blog post somewhere on MSDN that had all the code needed.

I'm using MediaMonkey right now. Was wondering if there's something better available, especially since those guys have pi**ed people off something fierce by constantly promising a Win8.1 compatible version (their app broke with 8.1) and not delivering anything in the last six months.

Edit: I see you mentioned WP. For that I'm using MoliPlayer Pro since I got tired of waiting for VLC which I donated to. Again was wondering if people recommend something else.

For me Foobar is really nice once you configure it all up.

However, if like me you had it reset itself once every 2-3weeks at random. You quickly get fed up having to re-do and re-install stuff.

I,ll stick to VLC android

I immediately thought of PowerAmp - the first app I ever purchased.

If a lone programmer can produce a player of the quality of PowerAmp and eventually recoup his costs by selling it for $3.99, what the hell do they need $200,000 for?

200k for the Android version? I'm sorry, but no thanks!

There are more than enough free and good players on the android market. Not to speak about the non-free ones, like Poweramp (which is way cheaper than the minimum 50$ that you have to pay to get the player on your device... if it's going to be supported at the end).

edit: $25 and not $50. Sorry.

So now they've canceled the Kickstarter entirely ("due to projections of this Kickstarter being 2/3rd short of its goal" - what a surprise) and switched to their own site for fundraising. Besides the bad presentation, I'm confused now:

1) Why not revise the goals on Kickstarter itself, which is a far more reputed site for crowd-funding?

2) Do those who contributed on Kickstarter have to do so again on the Fb2k campaign site?

3) Now that Fb2k's directly in charge of the campaign, like Kickstarter do people get refunded their full pledge amount if even the base goal is not reached?

4) What's with the frequent and confusing changes that are no doubt losing them valuable contributers? Now Windows Phone seems to be back in action?

5) The base funding goal lists only "Windows Phone" and not tablets, but scrolling down a bit more the page says "Windows Phone 8 and Tablets (Windows 8.1), ARM and Intel". The Delivery Schedule again lists only Windows Phone. I'm interested in all three versions (phone and x86/ARM tablets) so which line is correct? Given the frequent page updates one can hardly be sure, and I think the guy in charge is getting confused too.

I must say these are not things that make people confident about the project in the least. They needed to involve someone who knew how to properly run a crowd-funding campaign right from day 1, but the situation now just seems way too fluid and ad-hoc. Monetary and platform goals keep changing, the reputed crowd-funding platform has been dumped for some reason and people aren't 100% sure about their funds. The three guys are great developers no doubt but they really, really need a capable pro to run and market their campaign. In this day and age even seasoned pros (no matter what they create) whose very name is sufficient to make people line up ready to toss bundles of cash at them ensure that they have well-run campaigns with maximum visibility to maximize contributions. Here I don't even see any great promotion being done by the people behind the project, with fans taking it upon themselves to submit the news to various sites. Looks like no study of previous successful campaigns was carried out either. Is it any surprise then that we are on the third goal revision already (that I know of) in less than 5 days? :/

It doesn't reset itself at random for me, and I  can easily export my "theme", to re-use it in an other computer.

I  use "default UI" as I  don't like "columns UI".

o_0 reset at random? I've definitely never heard of anything like that happening... Sounds like there is something wrong on your end to me if thats happening, perhaps a misbehaving third party component or something.

Anyway, regarding this kickstartr, I love foobar but they handled this whole thing so very poorly. Their users didn't really want this (most of the requests I've seen for foobar on other platforms have been requests for metro/linux/osx versions, not android or ios). And on top of that their kickstatr page was way too vague and fluffy, and they kept changing their mind about various things and changing the funding goals. Seems like they just didn't think this through very well.

I may have donated if they had thought this out better and had a more concise proposal.
