notchinese
I only turned them off in XP, because they looked horrible in XP. Digitalfox
I have mixed feelings on this! On one hand yes, it seems faster. But on the other hand isn't it just perception? Won't it look old fashioned if was applied to Windows by default, making the perception of a old era OS? Roberticus
Changing MenuShowDelay in registry from 400 to 20 makes it really smooth. On the flip side if the perception with them off makes it seem faster, then anyone one who turns them back on gets a perception that it's slower with them on. Won't it look old fashioned if was applied to Windows by default, making the perception of a old era OS? Actually it will make the perception of an OS that all of the sudden got a lot faster. Taskbar previews, transparency maybe, basic compositing is good enough for me. However I always thought Microsoft hit a sweet spot when it came to effects.. just enough without going into the absurd. (IE any Compiz desktop you see on YouTube.) +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1226697-a-video-i-made-demonstrating-windows-8-with-and-without-animations-and-fades/#findComment-596547709 Share on other sites

Actually desktop composition to me is still Aero. These are just worthless animation and fades. I still leave transparency turned on. simplezz
Yep definitely faster. I generally disable effects like that. They get annoying over time. I think Alpha compositing and shadows are okay, the rest I can live without. I do like compiz cube effects however to play around with from time to time. Ian W
In Windows 8.x, I also like to turn off the shadows for the desktop icons, mouse cursor, and windows. +Red King Subscriber² Posted August 26, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted August 26, 2014 One of the first things I do on a new install is disable the animations because they are not power user friendly.
