YIKES! New site looks ugly now, how about more flatter look like the new upcoming Mac OS X instead of the big bulky ugly metro look.

You mean Yosemite? First, you can't do translucency on a website, second it is a Microsoft oriented site.

The font is all messed up on Chrome. I used to be a fan of the hover animation for images but now I'm starting to dislike it a bit.

Overall, I think it's really nice. astropheed <3's Darkside

What i think can be improved:
- The font is just feels too big
- The featured post only show 4 post
- So many things that have been changed and disappear,
- no more forum sub menu hover (like showing spy, mini spy, latest forum post etc. Neowin is all about forum)
- Not showing a HOT! text in the hot post, just showing red colored comment count. For first timer, HOT! post is eye catching.
- For default theme, feels to many white, and by seeing for far away, doesn't look like a Neowin. the relaxed blue is gone.
- So many button, link, text, feels hidden because of the color and fade animation. Example : i didn't notice a like/quote button showing up when hovering a comment in post, and so many things feel hidden. maybe because of the font is too thin, and the color, and fade animation. no animation feels snappier and i can notice a change instantly. just look  "Want to make Windows 8 feel faster? Shut-off these animations" post, killing off animation feels snappier and faster.

1. Easy on eyes, great on mobile

2. Wasn't it like that before?

3. See below

4. This sub menu thing can't work as it is redundant with the latest forum posts. Neobond told us that menu was also non-refreshable

5.The HOT! was kinda unnecessary, as some articles had low comments but many hits, I think (not for a fact) the new system is based off of discussion volume

6. I want a baby-blue option

7. The edit buttons are always hidden even on the old design.

Is that meant to make it all look better again? Because it doesn't.. It's the same hideous monstrosity, just dark.

Can't we have an option for the old theme, please?  That way everyone's happy.//

I recall you saying you want to hide it at work?

Besides having the old + new is a technical impossibility, you should know that. Having two manage to entirely different backends (btw Timan worked really hard to refresh the backend to make it work with the new design). Plus, you saw what happened when Microsoft supported XP forever.

Even if it was, it would be ridiculous to do so. This notion of "reverting back" because people don't like something is getting out of hand. The page is more than just a 'skin' that can be switched off.

Well, at least give us an alternate theme that doesn't have a gigantic banner and thumbnails that take up half of a 1920x1080 screen, please?

Man I don't visit the page for a couple of days and bam a whole new look to the site.

Not complaining at all, but I was definitely surprised when I first visited the page today.  Thus far I like it, no problems right now.

Went with the list view over the tile view because reading the page content flowed better in my opinion.

Definitely like the darkside theme, it looks very slick.

One question though,  what does it look like now when you get a notification on the main page?

Yeah... no. Sorry guys.

  • Too "metro-ish" - have switched to the summary view, but even then it's "too big". (Font size is way to big, everywhere - even comments section!)
  • Having said that, there is a lot of white/unused space when reading comments.
  • Would like to see the notifications returned as they were previously at least? (Some call these the "Facebook notifications")
  • Article comments should be returned to the order they were previously. (This is the reverse of what it is now)
  • When making a comment the "Type comment here..." doesn't get removed when you click to start typing there. (IE10)
  • Embedded GIF support. (Really?)
  • Option to not have the very top menu bar disappear when I scroll down the page? (And it's too big overall, making it shorter would solve the need to have it vanish after scrolling)

Agreed, as I said there were some backend stuff too. Like the menu dropdowns, those at first navigated to the page rather than dropping down the menu. Since I have a Surface, I told Timan about it and he fixed it right away. Now with a mouse it works and with touch it also works with two taps to navigate and one tap to drop down the menu.

I liked the old way better.

Why?

Yeah... no. Sorry guys.

You can set the comment sort order.

Top menu bar appears to be the same size as the original.

  1. Modern is the point, I think the font size is easy on the eyes
  2. White space clears the site of the old clutter
  3. Notifications - agreed
  4. No, this allows readers at the bottom to comment at the top , without getting lost in long threads. You can arrange it how you like, there is a button that you can use.
  5. It gets removed on IE 11, just update why are you on 10?
  6. It's actually image support, and it's great you can use your own emoticons
  7. The bar would still take valuable space even if it was smaller and did not collapse. You have an issue with collapsing bars?

Ahh yep, I see the comment sort order option now, thanks!

Top menu bar is definitely bigger than it used to be (wasted space) and my other comments stand.

Why should it be the point? Sure it's easy on the eyes, if you're blind*.

What "old clutter"? The whole design has been made over, there is no "old" left.

Yes I found the comments re-order option now and have adjusted it the way it should be.

I'm not going to get into that discussion. Let's leave it as a bug that needs to be fixed.

Can't agree there for quite a few reasons, the foremost being it'll be (and is being) abused by people.

It took space before and it wasn't an issue, much like any bar. Yes I do and i'm stating my opinion.

The top bar hides when you scroll down the page and reappears when you mouse over it.

I know, but I prefer it to "stick" instead of mouse-overing hidden things.

Blue bar at the top missing half of the graphics or text on the computers I've viewed it on

Try a hard page refresh.

Sadly, thats one thing thats not possible.

We welcome feedback, constructive criticism. Just hating and saying it sucks, will just make you be ignored at least on the dev front :p.

Things will 100% be tweaked, only the staff/subs have had a play with it, so we did the best we can based on theirs. Now the members have their turn.

Can you get the notification counter thingy to work again on the new design? I liked having that alert me when there was a reply or somebody quoted me.

Irritating bug: The neowin header bar completely disappears when I scroll down the page. That's all fine and dandy but it never reappears unless I scroll back to the top of the page. I see a grey bar at the top of the page and I hover over that and ...nothing.

The bar disappearing when scrolling down is not a bug apparently, it's a new feature. :/

Edit : Using IE here as well, and it doesn't flash or anything of the like... But it does reveal when 'moused-over'.

Yes loved that , whenever logged in it would let me catch up to the discussions missed.

From memory it was one of the last things added to the previous redesign too.  Sucks, because it's obviously not looked upon as important enough to the staff.

In saying that, I can't confirm if it works or not.

Here is my feedback:

1 - This navigational bar is way too large. Needs to be shrinked. The easiest way would be to make the Neowin logo smaller. We know we are on Neowin.

2 - Ive always hated these pictures in the previous design and now I hate them more. They make no sense at all. Are they up there based on hit count? Comments? Randomly? Staff pick?

3 - Ive picked the default view for my feedback. In the default view, all I see is 2 headers. I don't see any information about the article at all at a glance. In the previous design I could at least see SOMETHING. I think that is better than nothing. In the list view it is a bit better but still....

4 - This is completely broken so I imagine it is a bug. No who posted the last post, when they posted, how many replies it has, etc....

5 - Pointless as well. Under the more section, you have a chat on IRC section. Social media should be included there.

Also in general everything feels way too big/in your face. Most people on this site are not blind. The font size needs to be reduced a lot.

My suggestion: Why not make sections movable? You click on a section (ads could not be moved) and move it somewhere else making important content to YOU a priority. Ive seen sites that allow you to dynamically do this and I think it would be a huge improvement.
