two days ago i realized that we have sport1 US now, means they are broadcasting the indycar races and i wonder because this sport seems to be rather popular in the us, why there is no thread for it?

I'm a big IndyCar fan, for the record. To be honest, the sport has next to no following in the US, aside from their crown jewel race, the Indianapolis 500.

The Indy 500 is the only thing you'll ever see about IndyCar in the news here, despite the series running 17 other races this season. Other racing series, like NASCAR take prescience over IndyCar in our media, unfortunately, and even then, motorsports are not very popular in the US.

Anyway, the last race of the 2014 IndyCar season is Saturday night at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. It is a 500 mile/805 km race at a high-banked oval, the third leg of the IndyCar "triple crown" season. Australia's Will Power is the current point leader heading into the final race of the season; a position he's been in three of the past four years, to only lose the championship in the final race. Hopefully Power can win the championship this season, after being shut out for so long.

Mikhail Aleshin was injured in a practice crash last night at Fontana. Looks like his car just snapped around on him and he spun up the track, collected Charlie Kimball. Aleshin's car flew up into the catch fencing and tole a large hole in the fence. Aleshin was transported to a local hospital with a concussion, fractured ribs, and a broken collarbone.
