Win7 Upgrade To Windows 10 TP

MS has released Win10TP and many people has probably tried on it, however, MS has also provided a channel to upgrade directly from win7 to Win10TP, I did it a while ago but it's under NDA, but in yesterday's public release it was also provided.

In Win7, log in to WindowsInsideProg, open the download page, the tool download will be displayed:

This time I tried on a win7 Ult X64 en-US, installed with Offfice 2013, Chrome, Avira, Winrar5, UltraISO and QQ, when you launch the tool, it will launch Windows Update and display the required Win10TP, it probably had made a device and OS check but it was not displayed:

After downloading, click to proceed installation, in my case, it took about 1 hour 15 mins to complete and displayed the Win10TP desktop, along with the softwares installed in win7:

Notes:

- In my case upgrading was smooth and without glitch, but I've heard reports of some people having problems and even failed completely.
- The MS paper said that it should be a retail-activated win7, any SKU, and has to be installed on bare metal, but I found that it changed to the win10TP key.
- Win10TP is a prelease, it's buggy, if you wish to try it on a main OS win7, it's your decision, and at your own risks.

That's excellent news, was hoping that they'd allow Win7 users to upgrade directly to Win10.

Good guy Microsoft. (Y)

lmao, MS has spent tremendous effort to develop this upgrade path and made history, but nobody gave a damn to this new feature, those poor MS guys must be really depressed.

Btw, just a reminder(take it as a rumor, because it is not confirmed "yet").

Some guys always like to remove the watermark, previously there is probably no problem as long as the OS still runs fine after watermark-removal.

But for Win10TB, removing the watermark will likely cause a problem for it to upgrade thru updates, either it might cause a update failure, or not able to receive the upgrading updates. :)

..... Take it as rumor:

"E" in WEP =Enterprise(or Enterprising).

Win10TP is basically Win8.2(Threshold) Preview, things will be different for WCP, expect 7 (upgrading) updates before WCP, and in WCP, "a lot of" features developed in Project Windows 9 will be unlocked.

And KMS will be upgraded to next version in RTM, but guess it's too early to think about this now. :)

For goodness sack... there is NO Windows 8.2, Threshold is Windows 10 (what previously was 9), but it has never been 8.2.

Take it as rumor: WTP -> WCP -> WEP -> WDP -> RTM(Q3/Q4)

:)

I guess that is Technical, Consumer, Enterprise, Developer? Which is quit odd, with Windows 8, it wass Developer, Consumer, Enterprise (well... Release, that is). A different, and more logical order. I tought it was quiet odd when Microsoft announced that back in September.

- I won't debate on this thing, but MS had also said officially "There is no Windows 8.1 Update2".

- It's just a branding, if they could skip "9" and goto "10" for a major Windows edition, what else they couldn't do with naming a Preview?

Btw,  don't know details, but for WCP I heard something about : "IE12CTP", "DX12B1", "Office Touch shortcut@Store", among other things. :)

And they splitted up Update 2 to May, June and August. However, you're the only one I've ever seen claiming there to be a Windows 8.2, you're also the only one claiming that Windows Threshold was 8.2 and not 10.

Nope, WinThreshold was first planned to be win8.2, Mr. Paddock(@BrandonLive) had explained that Threshold was supposed to be a Update for Win8.1 although he left MS and naturally wouldn't know about brandings, I said winthreshold was not win9 because there was already wincodename9.

In Aug MS decided not to release win8.2, instead to make winthreshold the next windows edition, and add the win9 features to threshold, and skip win9(quoting Tony Prophet "win9 came and went"), they couldn't brand it win9 because it would cause a big confusion, imagine a MS guy talks to another MS guy about win9, the other guy would need to ask him to clarify: "excuse me, you mean threshold-win9 or wincodename9?".... so threshold need another branding "win10".

And tks to jose_49 for the other links. :)

Temper with system files and system reg keys in Win10TP?(Like I said before: : remove watermark, remove keylogger, remove feedback tool, check new builds, etc...) , chances are you might not be able to get the (upgrading) updates. :)

Tks to @abbodi1406 in MDL.

Guess you guys had successfully upgraded to build 9860, as per previous post, I believe there would be 6 more upgrading updates before WCP - here's some rumors(take with salt):

- As there was a lot of feedback requests, I heard that MS is "seriously considering" of putting aero-glass back into Win10, so, if you like aero-glass, make sure you voice it in feedbacks and UserVoice.

- Unfortunately, Cortana won't be available in WCP.

:)

I couldn't edit the last post, so....

Seems Brad needs to update his blog (tks to @BAVO and @arseny92): :)

Also, I have this install.esd after upgrade to 9860, strange thing is it is the 9841 esd dated Oct2, but some guys have the Oct 21 9860 esd., guess the update process didn't replace the esd in my system:

That file along with the upgrade PBR marker file is used for recovery images persistence across build upgrades. You also need to redeploy WinRE due to this

Tks @arseny92, and also for posting the install.esd info in MDL :)

Seems win8china(ithome.com) got a build 9871, and one change they noticed is the Notification Centre has moved further right as different from 9860. They also claim that "Notification Centre will get more functions and better UI".

Cool and all.  But it will still be disabled for me.  I have no use for notifications on my desktop.
