Going to Australia

Recommended Posts

I'm just about to go to work now but I was checking the thread. Your Ideas are just brilliant :D... but huh is that true guys? is Adelaide the butt of australia? I know it's small compared to other cities, but I heard everyone is friendly there, and that it's a nice place to visit, I'm sorry but from the pictures that keldyn took that place looks AMAZING!! so I'm curious to see it.

that's my opinion. and my book speaks highly of it too.

Adelaide is not a bad place. Compared to some of our larger capitals like Sydney and Melbourne it will feel quite small. Adelaide does not have that "big city" excitement about it. We do have a lot of culture here however and the people are very relaxed and friendly. It is true that there is not a great deal to see as far as sight seeing goes, but then I suppose it is what you make of it. I like Adelaide because it is a very relaxed and laid back place to live. Sydney and Melbourne are just far too hectic for my tastes.

wow so much info to take in, you guys have great Ideas, but one of you mentioned that I should visit New Zeland... how is the weather at this time of year? is it there summer also? and how much does cost from lets say Sydney to New Zeland?

also I'm wondering if I should take the train to travel around or just fly to my destinations.

So many things to consider...

another question, the clubs in australia do they have strict dress codes?

I wouldn't catch a train if I were you. Believe it or not, the price of a train is not that far off from the cost of an airfare, and the train is much MUCH more unpleasent. The advantage of a train is you get to see the countryside, but if you really want to do that, hire a car!

Oh, and yes, someone correct me if I'm wrong but the seasons in Australia and NZ are synced (as NZ is directly east of Australia).

perfect!! I might just do that then and go to New Zeland for a weekend or something... the thing that's going to screw me up big time is my sleep pattern... I have to re-adjust as fast as my body can take it... it's totally opposite for me so basically a 12 hours time change for me :p

WOOT!! looking forward to feel that in my body

NZ is too beautiful to stay for just a weekend (just watch LOTR if you want proof). I say stay there for a week, at least!

Oh, and something on top of my previous post, NZ is colder than Australian, so as a Canadian I'm sure you'd feel right at home. ;)

You know what's better than a 12 hour time change? A 20 hour flight, in economy a.k.a. cattle class.

A tip to handling it from someone who's been through the flight from Australia to your continent a couple times, resist the urge to sleep once you arrive in Australia until night, as you will arrive in the morning most likely (all flights from the US at least arrive in the morning, last time I checked). Sleeping once you arrive there will, depending on the flexibility of your body clock, royally stuff things up for a few days. Sleeping when night comes, no matter how hard it is, will make it much easier for the first week.

LMAO cattle class :p you got that right! but at least I'm not paying 3000 grand for the tickets :D

so I can be cattle for a few days :p

hmm a week in new zeland huh... I will have to think about that for sure.

BananaMan have you been to Canada?

Yeah well almost anyone is liked in Australia but yeah Canadians are liked alot cause well you guys are like us just UP north and cold lol rather than down south and hot.

Um yeah i would sugest a trip to NZ for sure um ticket prices vary quiet a bit so it might pay to look into a few airlines like Quantas, Virgin Airlines and ever Emirates ... all the airlines are good and ticket prices will probably be cheapest with virgin blue.

yeah a good week on each of NZ's island's would be what i would say.

I think you asked about clubs well there is plenty in Sydney and Melbourne.

Ummm what else can i say oh yeah if you have jet lag i wouldn't worry no matter what time you are up there is plenty to do in Sydney and Melbourne :D. Sooo um thats about it.

SWEET... hmm ok so here is what I'm thinking of doing... land in sydney, spend 3 days there, go to adelaide (see a friend...) spend 3 days there and then go to the great barrier reefs spend a week there.... then go to new zeland spend another week there and then fly back home :p

what do you guys think.

Not coming to Melbourne? :p You're missing out!

Adelaide, to me, has all the 'mod cons' of a large city, but the atmosphere of a country town

Make sure you swing by Newcastle sometime during your trip! It'd be great to meet u, Newcastle is only 160km north of Sydney and (about 1 hour drive away providing you dont get caught in traffic on the freeway, which is unlikely).

Newcastle has great beaches, and is the capital of the Hunter Valley (many many wines produced here!)

Also, I'd recomend driving, or catching a train during a lot of your trip, it might take you a little longer, but if you can afford the time and the cost (which is about the same as an airline ticket for train rides) you will see a lot more of whats "in between" the major attractions, and it will give a better knowledge of whats in the country
