Well FF fans, it finally happened, the release we have all been waiting for!

Oh wait.......no its not.

Now I don't blame Sony for this, although if Sony secured this as exclusive for any amount of money, then they got ripped off, but come on!

A simple port of the pc version that has been around for years? Really SE? That's what the fans wanted? I get that it costs money to actually remake a game, but it can be done really well, just like at things like Halo 1 and 2 anniversary, or Last of Us. I really wish Sony would have laughed at that offer and instead suggested helping to fund a proper remake, or not do it at all.

Yeah, I am a bit upset with SE, but can you really blame a fan for just having enough of their dissappointing choices?

The whole PSX event was great.....except for this part. It felt more like a stab at Sony/FF fans instead of something to celebrate.

Biggest troll ever... yet I'll still buy. Might mean FF8 PC edition comes to PS4 as well.

Probably the best Sony could get SE to do, so ran with it as it'll still print money.

Why in the world would you buy it?

I mean ok, maybe you never played the pc version, or maybe you are simply so starved for FF7 that you will take it in any form, but man do I wish people would not buy it.

I know I won't be and I bought FF13, so I know the feeling of wanting to buy even when your not sure its a good deal. SE will learn nothing if this does well and then nothing will change.

I've never understood the fanaticism around this game. Maybe it's just nostalgia or something.

FFVII & HL3 seem to be the two titles that are way too fixated on in the gaming community.

Because it's one of my favourite games and I'll happily earn a platinum in it? It's all we're getting, there will never be a remake now.

Well it became a classic.  Not surprise there.  Just like Chrono Trigger is also one of those games.  FF7 and especially F1 Racing Simulation (Ubisoft) for PC were my first ever games that I bought a bran new 3dfx graphics card for.  Its also how I met a good friend of mine, because he worked at the store I bought the PC and 3dfx card from, he helped me install it. :p

Nostalgia I guess.

Your right, there will never be a remake with that kind of response.  SE can just repack a game, throw on trophies and cash in.

It was a favorite game of mine as well, which is why I sure do hate to see the way its been treated.

For "boosted resolution" you can already play ff7 in a good emulator like epsxe.

But this  would affect only the "3D  parts", and a big part of that  game is just 2D.

If they increase the resolution of the 2D  textures in this ps4 port , this would be less a joke.

Well, most of the backdrops are actually 3D render stills (hence why the FMV integrates almost seamlessly). I honestly think Squaresoft/Square-Enix can't reproduce them and have lost the source files (Same for FFVIII). They've not changed since the international releases of the games.

From what I hear, even the few FFX re-master 2D backgrounds that existed in the game were re-sampled (e.g. side rooms in Djose Temple) - they weren't even that bad in the first place. So I don't think it's that they haven't tried.

FFVII in an emulator is not great when increasing the internal game resolution (Same goes for FFVIII and FFIX also). There are a lot of mathematical errors with collision, models and anchor points for character animation. The gouraud shading used in FFVII on non-textured characters really highlights this (e.g. Missing Number, Bottomswell, Ultima Weapon, Ruby Weapon). Any form of texture filtering / up-scaling causes blending issues for most texture layers also (then again, this can happen on early PS2 "Smoothing" filters as well).

The PC version (Steam) doesn't suffer these issues at all. Textures are aliased on blends but they do retain a lot more of the original quality compared to the PSX versions and are of a higher resolution.

I would whole heartedly claim that from an audio and game input point of view though, it's drastically superior in ePSXe/PCSX-R than any of the PC version(s) to date.
