Outboys
A question- Does AutopatcherXP change the XP Build number? After doing a fresh install of 4.2, StyleXP v2.0 can no longer be enabled. The program gives an error stating my version of WINXP is now 183501929...
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted February 17, 2004 Subscriber¹ Share Posted February 17, 2004 No, on its own AutopatcherXP will not change the build number, only the updates themselves may possibly do that. However, you dont need stylexp, autopatcher will patch the uxtheme.dll for you, thus negating using that useless software (just my opinion on stylexp), as that is all it is basically doing anyway. FlishFun Veteran Posted February 17, 2004 Author Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2004 Yes, StyleXP 2.0 has an issue with the newest version of AutoPatcher, because the AutoPatcher has an updated Uxtheme.dll that StyleXP doesn't understand. There are two work arounds: 1. Stop using Style XP. 2. Do not install the Uxtheme patch with AutoPatcher. If you've already installed the updated patch with the AutoPatcher and you want to go back to StyleXP, just remove the new Uxtheme and restore the older backups that were made. :) @Raptor - Yeah, still kinda gettin' used to the whole XML thing. lol

Go()seman
Thanks for the great work!! I've got one question - Not sure what option I checked, but it affected my icon display behaviour. I normall select one click - underline icons (Tools>Folder Options...>Single Click>Underline icons only when I point. Now what happens is the icon is actually highlighted and underlined. How do I go back to the normal operation? Thanks!!
akaladis Veteran Posted February 21, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 21, 2004 try this: Start - Control Panel - System - Advanced Tab - Settings button in Performance group - Make sure eveything on the list you see is checked :) /Raptor
new_duxie
just noticed a really obvious microsoft tools that should be included in the autopatcher, but has somehow been leftout, URLScan and IISLockdown, both tools combined come in under 1mb, so it won't bloat autopatcher (not that i care how big it becomes). ev0|
I have an issue with the Autopatcher, I had some trouble with XML files being overwritten by the old version of Dragon Naturally Speaking recently and I couldn't start any MMC programs. So i decided, I could do a sfc /scannow and replace all the files from my Windows XP SP1 slipstreamed disk. Boy was I wrong. It asked me for the Service Pack 2 Windows XP CD !!!! The only thing I can think of was that because i have Autopatched with all the updates, Windows thinks I have SP2 installed. Can anyone shed any light on this matter ? Carey934
Is this correct advice? Service Pack SP1 versus SP1a Be Aware: The Autopatcher website is distributing Windows XP SP1a (bad) which does not include Java (Microsoft VM). You have to install SP1 (good) First & Instead to get the benefits of Java. Avoid installing SP1a EVER! WHY? Once you install SP1, you have Java (Microsoft VM). And you can keep it up to date via Windows Update Security Patches through 9-30-2005. Possibly you will still have the use of Java thereafter in whatever state it is after 9-30-2005. If you install SP1a, you do not get to use Java for the next few years while Microsoft is working out an alternative technology / implementation / licensing. I assume Java dependent features will therefore not run on your SP1a patched Windows XP installation. Autopatcher website Download AutoPatcher XP, and Windows XP SP1a http://www.autopatcher.com/ References: Microsoft Transitioning off Java http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java SP1a Versus SP1 Windows XP SP1a is the same as Windows XP SP1 except that the Microsoft virtual machine (VM) is removed in SP1a. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813926 To determine if you are running Windows XP SP1, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. If "Service Pack 1" appears under System, you are already running Windows XP SP1. There is no benefit to installing SP1a if you are already running Windows XP SP1. Microsoft does not recommend that you install SP1a if you are already running SP1. If you are running Windows XP or Windows XP SP1 with the Microsoft VM, you can continue to update the Microsoft VM by using Windows Update. If you are running Windows XP without the Microsoft VM, you do not have to install updates to the Microsoft VM. Therefore, these updates are not offered to you when you visit Windows Update. Microsoft is no longer able to provide a download of the Microsoft VM for computers that do not already have the Microsoft VM installed. akaladis Veteran Posted February 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 25, 2004 you cant say that SP1 is 'good' and SP1a is 'bad'... it depends what you want... For example... I like Microsoft's VM... so why should i use SP1a and then install MS VM, and not use SP1 directly? Some guys dont want MS VM... So they prefer SP1a... /Raptor
