Hey, would it be possible to have an option to display the albums by year created?

Thanks.

Hi jan, yes I plan that in one of the next build (current+2 according to my roadmap :)).

just some feedback "self updater", in-case you were ever wondering.

It's working like a charm/boss.

Thanks, continue the awesome work!

Thanks for confirming!

Brilliant player man!!

Destroys Groove garbage which Microsoft dishes out. Feels like there is just 1/2 engineer working on Groove Music.

Thanks!

You're not the only one to be confused about ID3 tags, I use dbpoweramp to rip my CDs in mp3 et flac formats but I have just realized with your post that the space I put after ";" in my tags disappear when I encode the files. What is the best separator for multiple artists, genres, etc...?
Yeah, for the grouping tag it's more confusing as I don't use "grouping" but a tag called "style" and i put ";" with space after, and mp3tag displays "/" as a separator.

Id3v2 (at least Id3v2.3) is a mess for as far as I can see. For artists and genres it uses "/" as a separator internally. The separator you have to use, depends on the application. I noticed that most apps use ";". And that is being translated to "/" to store in the artists and genres tag. The "/" Id3v2.3 separator is the cause of AC/DC being seen as 2 artists, unless the player implements a workaround.

It seems the grouping tag has multiple names then:

  • In the changlog of dbpoweramp I saw: mp3 Tagging: Style tag mapped to 'Content Group Descriptor'
  • Mp3tag calls the tag CONTENTGROUP
  • I think (to be confirmed by an iTunes user) that iTunes calls it Grouping
  • Dopamine calls the grouping tag Grouping

Crazy isn't it

Do you know if it's the same mess with m4a files?

Just spent some time giving my music collection new cover art and thought that it would have been helpful if right clicking on an album would give an edit option for every song in the album.  Also thought it should be possible to drop a song from one playlist into another playlist via right click menu.

That issue I talked about earlier seems to be fixed in the newer builds.

Honestly no idea. I haven't looked into detail.

Those sound like good ideas. I'll think about the album art stuff for the next build. Dropping songs in other playlists sounds also good.

Sneak peek of Dopamine UWP. Same code running on Phone and Desktop.

Dopamine UWP.png

Similar screenshot as last time, because the other screens are still rather empty. Starting this app was hard, but I'm making progress now. The welcome screen is ready, switching between all screens work, the sqlite database works. A lot of time was spent on the styling and coloring. Now it's a matter of adding folders, indexing, showing lists and playing music :)

Is this going to cost any features from the Windows version?

What do you mean?

The pic you posted above appears to be a new version of the app for UWP...  Looks different already.

Yes that's correct. Both will exist side by side. The UWP app will focus on Phone and will be a simplified version of the desktop version for starters ( I quickly want something simple to play music on my phone). It will gain features afterwards. Because of the different technologies between the desktop and UWP version, they will not look exactly the same. But I try to keep that familiar look on the UWP app as much as possible.

I have a request for a future version of Dopamine, don't know if it has been already asked but it would be nice to filter the index of songs by extension (mp3, m4a, flac, etc...), to have the choice of which files we want to be indexed in the Dopamine collection.

Thank you again for your hard work! I'm excited to see the next version, i check the forum several times a day :)

Another thing i had to ask. I have some albums with a hidden track before track 1, so i tag it track 0, but in Dopamine, it only shows "--". It is possible to correct that ?

Hi! It was not asked yet. I've created a feature request. Sorry for the late reply, I was sent on a business trip this week :) I should be able to pick up development again this weekend.

I'll check out if I can do something about that.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all. I had some issues finding free time lately. Mostly due to work. But at this point I'm very close to a releasable build. This is the current changelog:

- Updated Bulgarian translation
- Fixed a bug which caused reporting of incorrect image size in the Edit song dialog
- Fixed an inconsistency between how Artists and Genres are displayed in the Edit song dialog
- Improved refreshing of the lists after a metadata change
- Added Loop one
- Added option to update album cover in the collection when changing embedded album art

I've added this today: option to update album cover in the collection when changing embedded album art

Update album cover.png

Edit: I'm now working on an "Edit album" screen which will allow the inverse operation: change the album cover directly, and embedded art for all the album's files optionnally. When that's done, a new build will be available.

Edited by Raphaël G.
