sc302 Veteran Posted February 19, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2015 This is a kickstarter project for US right now (sorry over seas guys). This seems like a great product that needs to be made. Seems pretty affordable too. 1 time use makes it seem a bit rough, but the installation time and removal time is great. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/872387109/zipgripgo-alternative-traction-aid-for-snow-and-mu

tsupersonic
Seems interesting, but I just use traction mats like these. I've dug my CLS 63 out of the snow with something like that. Or, you could just get proper winter tires, drive properly and not get stuck. This is my first season with winter tires (Blizzak WS-80), and I'm now a big advocate. I have plowed my car out of my garage when there was 12"+ of snow without any hesitation. My apartment complex isn't plowed till 10am, and it's all back roads to work. sc302 Veteran Posted February 20, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted February 20, 2015 Blizzaks are awesome but they aren't 20 bux a pair, not easily installed and can't be put on when you are stuck. Mats are good if you can get them under the tire. These are good if you are sunk in the mud...zip tie them on and you have traction. Sucks if you hub caps with steel wheels. tsupersonic
Yes, winter tires are more expensive, but putting these on requires you to get out of your car each time your stuck. On a day like today in upstate NY, it's 0F with windchill down to 30 below...no thanks. It's projected to go down to -10F tonight. Of course there is always the chance you will get stuck even with winter tires, but the probability of that happening is less compared to if you had A/S tires, and especially if you had summer tires. It also helps when people take their time, and not drive as if it were sunny/70-80F outside.
Lizardslap
look like ribbed zip ties a good idea I would buy some. As it is now I cant get out of my driveway with all the ice under the snow even with a truck bed full of wood

+LogicalApex MVC Posted February 20, 2015 MVC Share Posted February 20, 2015 Looks interesting, but I'm not sure it would be better than chains or studded tires for the worst possible conditions. The metal impacting the ice should create some real traction. Could be good for getting traction when your wheels are just spinning out though... I'll peek at it when it is released. Not a fan of crowdsourcing things.

Krome
The mats looks like a failed idea. It'll just slid through when the wheel/tire spins. I've do similar things when a car is stuck in the snow. And the worst I learn from it is that anyone is behind the car when the wheel spins fast, it will kick that mat or whatever you put under the wheel/tire and it will sling that object so fast it will hurt or injure or even kill you. The tie-wrap is an excellent idea. It's disposable. But instead of a tie-wrap, you should make it more metallic instead of plastic. I think that would sell better.
