Windows Phone 10 Concept (In Progress)

Recommended Posts

I am a fan of Windows Phones and have had them since my first Motorola Q with Windows mobile 6.0.  I do like the live tile designs, but at the same time I think we should have a choice to use them or not.  Since Microsoft is trying to bring Windows 10 together on all devices, why not make it a little more similar by having a "taskbar" or something that resembles it.  Maybe have the Windows key activate the start menu and then display the live tiles.  I personally don't think all the live tiles are absolutely useful and I could stand to get rid of half the icons on my home screen.  Unfortunately the app menu is atrocious having to scroll through everything.  Here are some ideas I have that I personally would like to see come to Windows 10 for Phones.

-Taskbar:  Be able to pin your own apps

-Desktop switcher:  Windows 10 will have multiple desktops, why not have that feature available for Windows for Phones

-When there is a notification such as a phone call, then the live tile can display on top of the desktop showing information of the caller, missed calls, etc.

-Windows Key:  When pressing the "home button" activate the start menu with your customized live tiles (just like the desktop)

Anyway, I am going to try to show my concept by creating it in Photoshop.  I have very mediocre skills, but let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!!

No a taskbar? Especially on mobile? No, If you do not like the large live tiles, shrink them and make them all to the smallest size.

Yeah, I was also thinking if that's what you want from a phone then go for Android.  There's no point in making phones that look and feel exactly like other phones.

I'm not trying to make an Android clone and to be fair, Microsoft did it first with Windows Mobile even before Android existed.  I'm not saying get rid of the live tiles altogether, but I think there still could be room for a launch bar with your most used apps.  Even if it was, in your eyes an Android clone for the UI, it would still be Microsoft underneath.  It could still be connected to Xbox Live, the same apps, etc. With desktop OS's they all fundamentally have UI's that are very similar.  Each have some sort of taskbar and menu to find the rest of the apps.  You know why?  Because it works and it works well.  Just like the old saying "if it isn't broke, then don't fix it."

We're not saying task bars don't work, it's just that there's no reason for it here.
