ctebah
A couple weeks ago me and the gf decided to get rid of cable, get really fast internet and a media device. Guys were advertising "pre-programmed" android boxes for $150+ but I figured I could get one myself for cheaper and program it. We ended up buying Nexus Player and it came to $120 after tax. I've put Kodi on it and after adding a ton of addons for movies/tv shows I found out that we can practically watch ANYTHING on it, including Live TV and specially sports. I was amazed how much content is on there and realized that we should have done this much sooner. I also have a group of friend with which we share login information to services such as Netflix, Sportsnet Now, TSN GO and several other Smartphone Apps which require someone with a cable subscription. So now, for the cost of fast internet and a few bucks to a friend ($40 total) we have almost unlimited supply of content to watch. Best part is, I managed to install Kodi on my jailbroken iPhone 6 and put the same addons on it, so now we can have the same content available in the bedroom and all I do is mirror my iPhone screen to our Apple TV 3. Anyone else using this device, or anything similar? Got any good addons to share?

ctebah
I had a hard time finding the Fire TV here in Canada and Nexus Player was available everywhere. One downside to the Nexus Player is it only has a micro-usb slot and Wireless AC, no ethernet port. However, I also bought it for the AC due to buying Netgear Nighthawk a month ago. Never noticed any lag so far. 1Channel and Genesis Addon have every tv show and movie we could watch and SportsDevil is great for footy.
Dinggus
Another option could have been getting the $35 ChromeCast stick, and cast it from your laptop/phone through Kodi.
ctebah
That requires one device be used and can put a drag on the wifi network due to streaming from internet to one device and then to another device. I ended up stacking some Staples coupons and got the Nexus Player for $85 tax in which is dirt cheap. Been playing with it since day one and not once did we miss having a cable subscription. Nogib
I sold my Chromecast and bought the Nexus Player day one. And overall I've been quite happy with it. There were a few apps that didn't initially work with casting to it that liked the Chromecast just fine (Disney Movies Anywhere for one) but that was fixed with the 5.1 update thankfully. ctebah
5.1 update solved a bunch of issues I had. I managed to put Kodi as a default app so now it's always on, even when the home button gets pressed.
