sc302 Veteran Posted April 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2015 The cheap aps don't support poe switches.... need pros or ac's.
+BudMan MVC Posted April 9, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 ah - so the cheap ones are just plugged into power?
sc302 Veteran Posted April 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2015 need a power injector of some type...ubiquiti, cisco, whatever. http://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_AP_DS.pdf Page 6 you will find that the only ones that are poe compliant are the pro's and ac's The two lower models have 3dbi, the pros have 4 and 5 dbi and the ac has 5 and 5 dbi antennas. the ac has 3x3 mimo on both bands, the pro has 2x2 on the 2.4 and 3x3 on the 5, the other two lowers have 2x2. +BudMan MVC Posted April 9, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 9, 2015 but they ship with an injector..
sc302 Veteran Posted April 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 9, 2015 well I think of poe as a switch with poe, not really a power injector. but the power injector is I guess poe, but it isn't smart enough to turn power off and on to the port like a switch is when the device requests power. The lower end units don't request power from the switch, but you may be able for force power on...I need to find a low end device so that I can test. neufuse Veteran Posted April 10, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted April 10, 2015 well after a few hours, all three AP's started flashing orange... I'm stumped... sending a ticket to Ubiquiti about this...

I've been through the readopt process many times now this just starts up again out of no where... already sent some info go Ubiquity about it now... after I completely power them down and wait a minute power them back up they act normal... but the signal slowly fades out and eventually they go to this blink non stop orange mode and nothing works
neufuse Veteran Posted April 10, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted April 10, 2015 just to fill in some info also earlier you asked what speed my internet is, right now its 150Mbit... but the fastest I can do a line test at (system to system, not over the internet) I pull about 1-4Mbit max when these AP's are working and even in the controller app it lists their current negotiated speed at as 11Mbit and 24Mbit for two of the devices I have on right now, and my iPod I have is listed at 1Mbit when it was on last ... even within a few feet of them I max out at 10Mbit... but I do have AC laptop, so going to AC would be nice. sc302 Veteran Posted April 10, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 10, 2015 I did have those issues with earlier firmwares on the pros (only effecting the 2.4GHz band), not having that issue as of now on current release.
+BudMan MVC Posted April 10, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 10, 2015 I have not had any issues at all to be honest.. Mine has been pretty rock solid since I got it to be honest, there was firmware that I did see some disconnections, etc. But that one was quickly replaced. So curious what unifi support says? Have you posted your issues on the unifi forums? There are some smart guys on there, and they even have their own staff that watches and responds in there, etc.

neufuse Veteran Posted April 14, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted April 14, 2015 Well, they confirmed the AP's are set up correctly for handoff and everything else, and gave me a beta firmware to try... so far no jamming issues, but signal range is still ok at best
+BudMan MVC Posted April 15, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 15, 2015 "2k sq ft on each floor times 3 floors that are completely finished" that is 6000 sq feet.. If you need more coverage maybe you need more AP.. To think 1 AP in the center of your house is going to cover 6k sq ft -- good luck with that.. Go buy your Amped pushing out lots of power, lets see your client send anything back to it of use at any speed.. You should read this http://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/Increase-TX-power-UAP-AC-Pro/m-p/1228867#M101204 What is yours set to.. I run mine on low for 2.4 and it covers my whole house, even out to the patio.. Shoot I can go to back end of my yard and still get coverage.. Not great but it works. I only have a single floor and shy of 2k sq feet.. so that is 12 for 2.4 and 17 for 5, maybe you need to lower your power output on them
neufuse Veteran Posted April 15, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted April 15, 2015 but I had zero problems with coverage of the whole house with the old R6300, not one problem, that's why this is bugging me... I need 3 UniFi AP's to not even get 2/3rs the coverage the single R6300 gave me.. I know I had full coverage before because I ran a signal analyzer and recorded the SNR at different points in the house back then and it was good coverage all the way outside. What was so different about the R6300 besides being an AC router, and having a slightly different antenna config
+BudMan MVC Posted April 15, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 15, 2015 and where was this r6300.. So your saying you had perfect coverage on the 3rd floor when the AP was on the 1st floor? And what was your speeds? So why don't you just go back to your r6300 if so good? There is 1 thing to see a signal.. There is another to have max performance, your client can not transmit across how many walls and floors in a 6k sq foot house.. I find it be hard to swallow that you had perfect coverage with just 1 AP in such a large house.. Why don't you grab https://www.acrylicwifi.com/en/wlan-software/wireless-coverage-acrylic-wifi-heat-maps-site-survey/ Do a survey of your coverage now, and put your r6300 backup and do another survey.. You do have your unifi AP mounted correctly in the ceiling on each floor, you mentioned something about staggering them. Would love to see a heatmap - and can better determine best location for each AP that way.

remixedcat
Thank you and if you want RF stability go for the Meraki stuff.. which BTW the Meraki MR34's have got a spectrum analyzer built in! Tested 2 of those and they are amazeballs... too bad they are some coin tho... Airtight networks seems to be well.. tight as they got good RF performance as well... Tested a C75 Here's a breakdown of some enterprise grade access points and some pros-n-cons: 1) Cisco Meraki-Cisco in the clouds without a controller. Pros: They host it for you and with that comes nice remote control and very smooth provisioning. Intuitive interface and ease of defining traffic shaping, etc. Cons: Lacks extensive RF tools and you gotta shop around for a cloud license. (units tested MX60W/Z1/MR12/MR34) 2) Aruba Networks-Has 3 options;controller/standalone(but clusterable) instant/cloud. Pros: Excellent RF tools, 3 operational modes, high performance throughput with mixed clients, lots of traffic shaping options. Cons: Client station monitoring requires either cloud or airwave licensing and if you run cloud you can't have access to local config but you can convert at any time from one to the other. (units tested: RAP109 and IAP225) 3) Xirrus-Has both cloud and local. Pros:Amazing amount of RF controls and options, XR630 can handle 240 clients (120 per IAP), 5Ghz legacy clients won't slow .ac clients down, cloud and local can work at the same time. Cons:Easy to crash arrays with too many global filter policies, throughput can be low at times, VLAN issues occasionally. 4) Fortinet-Local only no cloud+?CLI. Pros: excellent firewall options (forti "wifi" 60D tested) very secure "locked down by default" config. Cons: TERRIBLE wireless performance. Very low throughput and very frequent disconnects. Major firefox issues to where changing wifi settings bricked the device and it took me a long time to revive it.
+BudMan MVC Posted May 15, 2015 MVC Share Posted May 15, 2015 They better do some AMAZING ###### for $1k price tag.. http://www.amazon.com/Meraki-Dual-Radio-802-11ac-Performance-MR34-HW/dp/B00FJBIW5A That is clearly way outside any normal home budget!! neufuse Veteran Posted May 15, 2015 Author Veteran Share Posted May 15, 2015 yeah....... this is for a house... btw I already have Meraki (now cisco) equipment, we put in 12 AP's so far at work with them... expensive... but they work.. they actually gave us the first couple for free.... fully knowing they will get that money back in hosted controller fees
remixedcat
The Z1 I got was only 161 and it included 3 yrs of the cloud controller.
