It's pathetic because a) it takes approx. a second longer to open than Win32 Calc or b) because the member who uploaded the video makes it sound like the wait is oh so dreadfully long?

A. Modern applications are slower than traditional applications. :(

Well they are not much slower if the video is anything to go by. I am sure that they will perform better down the development road.

These previews were never intended to showcase UI; they are to test drive new features, yet it seems UI is the only thing everyone is talking about. I don't get it.

No these previews definitely are to show off UI as well as UX and features, it is a preview of the entire Windows 10 and with Windows, UI always gets dumped last.

I really hope they make Cortana look like in the second image because the first one which is what we currently have, will look like a pre pre pre alpha version in comparison if it ships like that.

Is that second image an official mockup? Sure hope they can get all of the great UI stuff we've seen in mockups in before it goes RTM. There's a lot of work to do in some areas

Especially Metro being abandoned in favour of something that more closely resembles Google's Material. Shocking.

Come on now chap, even I've realized this is a trolling grande exp

I don't consider Aero Glass a resource hog, but it does require significantly better hardware. Integrated Graphics obviously can't run it.

Integrated graphics - which and when?  Intel's HD series can.

I've reinstalled 8.1 on this laptop because I was having too many problems with games that I wasn't enjoying it. Not that I'm angry or anything. I'll watch this thread intently and watch how things progress. But now my games work 100% as I like them to.

looking forward to RTM day. I hope you guys can, as a whole, will be able to get an OS that we can all enjoy and be proud of.

I agree in theory but I have never seen MS hide the UI until release. In every preview release of Windows we have seen the actual UI. Is they were smart they would add s'more features to make it more aesthetically pleasing and fun to use. Just look at how many people are talking about the UI and icons. It obviously matters.

Windows 8 beta DP to RP, we saw majors changes to the UI. If majors changes happens, we won't see it until build 2015.

Not true. XP's final UI wasn't revealed until the end. Same with Vista. Vista didn't get glass up until the end. Windows 8 also went through several changes.

*Thread Cleared*

I just spent way too much time cleaning up this thread, you guys can't seem to stay on topic. This thread is about Windows 10 preview, not about Aero glass or Windows 7. There's a dedicated UI thread where you can argue over semantics on what means what all you want, this thread isn't the place for it.

Really? I don't recall the UI looking any different at all. Same thing with every preview going back to Windows 95. Now that inthink about it, maybe XP's final UI wasn't in the first preview. Still though, if they are going to change it, why not just leave it the same as Windows 8? Same with he icons. If they are going to introduce a new UI, why would they change it from what we had already only yo change it again?

The changes weren't on the scale of Aero to Metro, but there were changes:

Man, same thing happened to me by installing the 15.3 beta AMD drivers instead of reinstalling :)

But yeah, disappointed how unstable it is for gaming witht he DX12 drivers.

We'll probably start getting better drivers at or after BUILD. They said DX12 is mostly complete but who knows what changes they've done to the graphics system between build 9926 and 10041? All of these should be locked by build with the only changes after to user level features and apps or the UI.

Sadly it seems that the Windows 8.1 Start screen was phased out in Windows 10 build 10041. Unlike the previous build 9926, disabling the EnableStartMenu and EnableStartMenu keys located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced does not reinstate the option within the interface to use the Start screen.

I just hope that Microsoft will make the Windows 10 Start menu at least as functional as the Windows 8.1 Start screen, but I am not certain if that will happen.

This is AMD we're talking about, I doubt we'll EVER see better drivers.

That is the truth right there.

A bug in the current AMD drivers is not even allowing people to get into Safe mode on some systems ultimately disabling copies after the initial install of 10041.

This bug has existed for 1 year now and AMD isn't exactly known for doing things unless there is a circus involved.

I think the only thing M?icrosoft needs to do here is allow the All Apps to expand to the full screen. I have suggested this in the Feedback app. The start menu works great, but the fat of the matter is that especially on tablets, it's a whole lot better to have the All Apps on the entire screen. And, let's be logical, from the moment someone clicks on All Apps, you can assume they won't be using the tiles, so you might as well just hide it. This is what I said on the Feedback app. Other complaining people should do the same, not whine here.

What about application categorization for "All Apps"? Or semantic zoom? Or the options to display administrative tools and more applications if desired? "All Apps" needs to do more than just expand to full screen.

Exactly. It needs to function like the Start screen in Windows 8.1 to be efficient for both touch and mice.

Don't call it "whining." I have left feedback with the Feedback application, through e-mail, and on the Uservoice website.

1 - Categorization seems unnecessary to me. Semantic zoom I'll agree to. The rest doesn't have to be an option, it should just default to show more apps and administrative tools.

?2 - Whining doesn't refer to you in particular. But I see a lot of people complaining here and I wonder if they say any of this in a civilized manner through the Feedback app or Uservoice.
