paraman
I am getting the 'Get Windows 10' prompt in my system tray for a few days now. It says Windows 10 will be a 3gb download and I will be notified once it is available for install. But will I be able to save the ISO? If in the future I have to format my c drive and want to install Windows 10 I will need a bootable disk for that. Somebody kindly clarify. Cheers! dipsylalapo Supervisor Posted July 2, 2015 Supervisor Share Posted July 2, 2015 I was thinking about the same thing. I may have been answered in another topic so apologies if it has. I have Windows 8 Pro installed, come July 29th I'll be upgrading to Windows 10. If at some point I want to complete a clean install what happens? Do I get an ISO with a new product key? paraman
I assume after the download is complete, we will be prompted to save the ISO which we can later burn to a dvd. How will we get the key? Motor_Mouth
They have been providing ISOs fairly regularly for Insider Preview builds so I imagine they'll have ISOs available for release versions, too. I've not been able to install any of the previews through Windows Update so I'm relying completely on ISOs. It's about half-way through installing the latest build on my tablet as I type this. Noir Angel
If they don't immediately release an ISO I'm sure the tools will be upgraded that allow people to decrypt the ESD and make an install disk. neo1911 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1262470-will-we-get-a-iso-of-windows-10/#findComment-596912686 Share on other sites

Don't worry about the key... Once you upgrade to RTM, you can upgrade or clean install anytime ... your data is stored/linked to your device ID/account which you reserved a copy of Windows 10 via Reservation program. Just wait and see what's happening on 29th. paraman 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1262470-will-we-get-a-iso-of-windows-10/#findComment-596912692 Share on other sites

Just wait and see what's happening on 29th. But what if I don't want to upgrade my Win8.1 install and just want to put Win10 on a secondary HD as a clean install? How can I get it linked to my account? If I "reserve a copy" will I have control over whether it upgrades or not? Am I stuck and have to upgrade my Win8.1 install to get Win10 RTM linked to my account? I have only used the first initial insider build with my account. EDIT: I found a basic answer, at MS Answers.. Can I do a clean install using the Free upgrade? No, it will require that you are running a previous qualifying version and start the upgrade from within the qualifying version. You can initiate a clean install after completing the Upgrade. Please be aware that you cannot use the free upgrade offer to perform a clean install on first attempt. You must first upgrade from the qualifying version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 (whether you do it through Windows Update or using the .ISO file). Ensure the upgrade is completed successfully and then ensure that it is activated. You can then proceed to do a clean install by using recovery media or using the Reset function in Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC (Get Started). If you don't upgrade, you will not get free copy of Windows 10. You will be asked for a key during the clean installation. But you might be able to do the clean installation as long as you have Windows 7 or 8.x key. Not sure if this works... If not, you will do the upgrade option for free offer for first time. Then after that, you can do clean install since Microsoft has your up to date data after upgrade. If you upgrade to 10 from 7 or 8.x, then you are set, you are able to do clean install afterwards. The installation will detect the data between your device and MS server to make sure it's matched. You can control the windows updates if you have Pro otherwise you can't control if you have Home version, unless MS changes before the RTM or shortly after.. maybe not. If you reserved a copy of Windows 10 via reservation program, you can upgrade and not worry about insider program.. you are able to get updates when available. If you are an Insider, you can stay on this program and keep receiving the builds as long as you have same device that you signed up with your MSA. If you want to leave, you have 2 options: 1) click on stop insider builds button in Settings if you are on the secondary device ( build 10162 or newer). 2) if on production/primary device, wipe and install 8.x and get free copy via reservation before 29th launch. Don't worry about how they are linked... MS take care of that stuff during the reservation/installation which can be sent to the server for your up to date account.. For example, you have a device that you installed 10 on it... and you bought a new one because your device is broken... you won't use free copy that you reserved for that broken device... you will have to buy a copy of Windows 10 on the new device if you don't get it before July 29th 2016. After that date, free offer is invalid. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1262470-will-we-get-a-iso-of-windows-10/#findComment-596921814 Share on other sites
