[OFFICIAL] Windows 10 (Build 10.0.10240) discussion & upgrade experience

So how are MS going to work it for ppl that do not have or do not want an MS account?

And I cant see MS giving everyone the same key that I have seen ppl saying they have, the one ending in 3V66T, one would think that would more than likely change post 29th

It is quite simple, they don't become/remain Insiders.

Thats the only people really affected by it,

Hello,

i want to upgrade my windows 8.1icon1.png home edition by using the ISO win 10 rtm 10240.

The ISO will install win10 homeicon1.png edition or pro edition?

My serials will be activate after the upgradeicon1.png?

Thanks

Home and Pro editions are different discs, so if you have downloaded a home made iso from somewhere and have no idea which version the iso is I wouldn't use it, i wouldn't use a random download ISO anyway...

You should make your own ISO from the .ESD of the edition you have, you can verify the SHA1 of the ESD so you know its come from the MS servers and has not been tampered with in any way.

Once you have the ESD you can use Abbodi's WimLib v6 decrypt script to build an ISO from it.

I can totally break the Windows Store/Mail app.  :)

STEAM.

Not for everyone though,  if you have a LOT of games on steam, (I have over 700 apps/games) the install for steam takes about an hour (since I have it on another drive and I install it in that same location, Like G drive) otherwise it takes 3 days to download all of the items.  So I save time by putting it on another drive and just reinstall to that same drive.  Easy right?

Not so much...

Well during the time Steam validates the games in the folder, taking about an hour..  It breaks Windows Mail, Store, and Xbox.  (yeah all of them!)  Store says "You can't login" Mail opens/closes immediately and Xbox opens/ closes immediately.  Yeah 10240 gets broken.

*************WORKAROUND***********

If you have this situation, --------BEFORE YOU INSTALL STEAM ---- rename existing Steam Folder to Something other than STEAM, then install Steam new and it only takes about 3 minutes because there's nothing to "verify" and then move the files over to the newly renamed folder "Steampowered" and then rename "Steampowered"  to STEAM.   Problem solved so far.

Hope this helps you hard core gamers!

Thanks for the heads up! Remember to report it. Maybe there's something they can do in collaboration with Valve to avoid this in the future ;)

I'm sorry if this has been asked before,
I got a 1080p display and I have problem with Scaling in 125% dpi mode, some of the menus and texts are blurry and fuzzy which I could fix with compatibility options in file properties, but others like Device Manager and Computer Management can't be fixed this way. it's really annoying.
Has anyone else got this problem and how to fix this?

Updated video drivers have always helped me with that issue.

Oh, you think that has something to do with drivers?

Well I currently have the latest drivers for both Intel HD 4000 and Nvidia 730M on my laptop, If that's a driver issue I need a more updated driver for Intel HD. but with the popularity of Intel HD graphics on laptops still weird though that I couldn't find anyone else with this exact problem in win10 on my google searches.

I had the issue you described in 8.1 and thats what fixed it for me anyway.

That Steam issue might be a case of using the same ports as those apps or something?   It's worth checking out but if steam is using the ports then it makes sense for xbox/mail and the store to not be able to login, weird though.

Loadout won't work either. :(

Went either for ''Help us to solve this bug'',either for a black screen.

Game team still likes to be silence.

How many years/generations of CPU's, would the average user have to wait until they would see benefit in DX12? Would they be able to see a marked benefit with the initial Win10 machines that are coming out?

Once game engines are updated to support it you should see some improvement even with current gen CPU/GPU setups.

Is it still possible to do per app MSA on Win10?  One of the great things on Win8 was the ability to set your MSA to the Store only without having to set your entire system account to your MSA.

Dear Intel: Your Integrated graphics drivers side applications suck. Signed, Me.......

Ugh... so I've been having odd shell issues, like right clicking the desktop getting a 5 second delay with the wait cursor..... clicking the start menu getting a few second delay before opening..... make a new folder a 5 second delay before it happens..... etc etc

well turned out after going shell extension by shell extension that it was Intel's integrated VGA Driver's shell extension's causing it.. completely disable them in the registry and boom system works perfectly again....

It's stuff like this that makes people hate windows...... you know stuff that 3rd parties cause

GabeAul also confirmed that MS accounts won't be needed. So HWIDs are the best bet.

since windows 10 wont allow  this "Check for Updates but Choose when to Download and Install them" i'm staying away

i like to be in control of what gets installed

that is my rant/gripe about windows 10

Why exactly?... there's really no point in this.. you don't have to restart right away... this kind of thinking is just getting ridiculous at this point from standard users. A lot of grumbling, but no real reason why.
