[OFFICIAL] Windows 10 (Build 10.0.10240) discussion & upgrade experience

What they mean is that if you upgrade 7/8 to 10, you then can't go and install 7/8 on a separate computer with the same key, the upgrade "claims" the key as it's own.

It's the same as previous versions, you can't upgrade 7 to 8, then keep using 7 on a different computer.

Edit: And yeah, you can't downgrade from 7 to Vista.

Total nonsense, your windows 8 key will still work. It would be legal nightmare if a company where to pull jokes like that.

dont forget your upgrading your previous copy of windows not buying a full retail licence

my windows 7 key does not activate after i UPGRADED TO 8

the same if you upgrade from 7/8/8.1 to 10

now you go buy a retail copy and 7/8/8.1 will still work as it is a different product not an upgrade and its allways worked like this

So your saying you upgraded to 10 and on the same hardware the old key won't activate now and you have called ms activation and they told you this or?

it has allways work liked  this for an upgrade product

why dont people understand this? you expect to upgrade but keep 2 full products? how does that make sence

i remeber windows98 upgrade asking me for my windows95 disc just so it would install

Store appears to be broken after recent WU updates? There are apps awaiting to update, but nothing happens. They stuck at 0 mb. WU service also eventually hangs and won't even restart.

also all working fine here

security updates are good to be auto installed, but for developers who need to test items it gets annoying fast when you write drivers.....

and speaking of drivers, why can't I tell it not to update my drivers? maybe the version windows update is pushing on me doesn't work right... already fought with that one....

That's legitimate.

If you install the pro version, you won't have that problem.

Anyone else experiencing issues with the Xbox app? As of this morning I've been getting the message that it is unable to sign into Xbox Live.

I've gotten that for the past two or three builds.  If I am signed in with my microsoft account, I cannot sign out of the xbox app and sign in with the account on my xbox (they're different),  i clicked sign out, and now cannot sign back in.

Has anyone actually given a route from Insider to legit windows 8 upgrade yet? Really don't want to have to install windows 8 again just to upgrade it straight away. I have got an M.2 SSD so it's not gonna take days to do but it'll just be a ballache to have to install everything again.

I got that with Store, it's probably just last minute tinkering, hence the new versions of the apps that came over the last few days.

The leaks from Wzor check out the same as the OEM image that leaked a few days ago. They compare the same to a converted ESD as well. No need to waste bandwidth downloading.

Insiders got RTM first, OEM then followed with exactly the same version we got.

Tried Safe mode? Else reinstall windows or reset it from the settings.

I am an insider but I moved back to Windows7, while I have the upgrade option in my system tray, I assume I will have to wait till the 29th? and their is no way to speed up this process?

Get an MSDN account and cross your fingers  ;)

with Nvidia, I simply got a notification on my desktop screen of a new driver. if I was hesitant, I'd stick with what I have and ignore the update. I'm finding more Nvidia updates more centric to fixing issues in certain games so if I don't own that game.. forget about it. unless it was a massive update to improve issues that were overall system improvements.
