[OFFICIAL] Windows 10 (Build 10.0.10240) discussion & upgrade experience

Recommended Posts

Don't need it, done and activated. And several others have reported the same.

I was on windows 7 utlimate, and upgraded to windows 10 the other night. activated windows 10 pro automatically just fine.

whether this retains activation after the new auth system is up and running is yet to be seen.

Do you own a retail windows 7 or 8/1 license? Not OEM?

from the docs, im entitled ( i hate that word anymore), to a free windows 10 pro upgrade due to having a legit license, and its not directly connected to my machine (as is an oem upgrade).

So i'm not expecting any issues.

There is a PM button for private conversations......this is an open forum for discussion. It is annoying that a lot of people is paranoid about the activation, and they don't really understand that MS have changed the upgrade activations considerable from the past, and how it worked in the past might not necessarily be the case with Windows 10.

Then expect flack for it. Plain and simple.

In my case both systems were OEM (one a Surface Pro 3 and the other one a HP x360). They both seem to retain activation so far.

Then expect flack for it. Plain and simple.

OK.

This is public forum, anyone can jump in whenever they want.

If you do not want that, then take the conversation to the PM for private.. so anyone won't bother you two.

Simple.

See my last reply to Cask1.

I don't care if people reply, but dang...at least read the context, realize its not pointed at him, or you, and don't talk absolutes and then backtrack on it and say, "but, but, I didn't mean everyone!"

6 more days till we'll receive MS's latest RTM on Insiders channels.

10240 is the latest and last build anyone will get before July 29th.

If you're on 10240 already, then you have the same build already everybody else will be getting.

At least, that's how I have understood it.

Certainly there will be some last-minute updates between now and July 29th.

Stupid question but is there any way to change the color of the tiles for non metro applications or is it just a case of messing around with the accent color until you find something readable ?

From what I gathered, there won't be any ISOs directly from MS.

They want you to upgrade and use the 'refresh' or 'reset' options in Windows.

You can make your own ISO from an ESD file, though, anytime.

How about its ISO,will it be there in day one?

You can already get it today, either by converting the downloaded 10240 .esd off Windows Update to ISO or downloading one of the leaked OEM ISOs.

You were complaining/whining about butting in... which I quote:

Well then why are you butting into my conversation with someone else, and speaking in absolutes?

If you weren't whining or complaining, you wouldn't post that.   Have you thought about that?

So in summary, you are just posting to argue with me.

So productive.

it has allways work liked this for an upgrade product

why dont people understand this? you expect to upgrade but keep 2 full products? how does that make sence

i remeber windows98 upgrade asking me for my windows95 disc just so it would install

Just unninstall windows 10 and reinstall windows 8 with your windows 8 key, you can't use a license twice ofcourse but always once on either windows 8 or 10 install.

Did someone a clean install after upgrade and activated Windows without(!) a Microsoft Account?

Wasn't able to activate a clean install of build 10240 at all with or without a ms account.

6 more days till we'll receive MS's latest RTM on Insiders channels.

RTM has already been released. there will be no newer build when 10240 unti redstone.

RTM is the version that MS gave to OEMs to start putting on their machines to be send to store.

someone suggested that you have to do an upgrade install first, this registers your hardware id with microsoft as valid, then you can do a clean install.

I havent tried yet though since the upgrade seems clean and just as good as really clean install, but without the hassle of having to set everything back up my self.
